Interesting to see some leaning to proscribed definitions and those to more esoteric ones.

In my mind I like the esoteric, but in practice I gravitate to the proscribed because it's less stressful :P

Proscribed means 'forbidden' or 'prohibited'. Who is proscribing definitions and on what authority? Can you give an example of a proscribed definition?

Maybe he/she meant "prescribed" (ie received/conventional definitions) and it was just a slip of the keyboard so to speak.

Thanks for correcting me. Funny, it's a word I've used for years and only used its Latin parts for definition. Prescribed I've taken as "written before," like writing instructions before doing. Proscribed I took as meaning "written for" or "written about". So, correction gratefully received!

And yes.. prescribed would be the correct word.
