If someone was robbing my house and my neighbor called the cops, I'd turn to the robber for protection.

Here in the Spokane area years ago, the police had chased a wanted man into someone's house, resulting in the deaths of two of the home owners. The deaths were caused by the police, who had turned the house into a shooting gallery.
