Lets stay on topic ;) . The question of course is why a 2:41 minute Family Guy video warrants its own tread and why it could not be posted in any of the other treads about Christianity.

The change is not high that it is of the level of Russell, or de Benoist. I will not include Nietzsche, because I am not really that impressed with his work anti-Christ. And most of his message was more stating that since a growing number of people no longer believe in a transcendent reality morality needs a new basis to be grounded on.

This wouldn't exist without Christianity.

Good point. Main Stream Christianity has been pretty well detoxified. Strange beings like the members of the Westboro Baptist Church are very much in the minority and are held in contempt by most of the other Christians.

I find it funny that people want to always bash one belief system over another. And, the Atheist movement is just that a movement based on a belief system.

Didn't start out that way. But, as with all things, when people start to consolidate power and get followers, they then become what they fought against.

Everybody else is the enemy to everybody else.

"You Christians are the scourge of the earth!"
"You Atheists are going to eternal death!!"
"You other Atheists are not doing it right!!"
"You Muslims are the violent, stuck in the stone age animals"
"You Buddhists are doing nothing but living off the donations of others, go get a job!!"
"You Jews are the whiny puppeteers of the financial system!!"

If any one view is correct, then by default none are because of the shared history and beliefs that they all encompass and try to claim as their own, singularly virtuous way of life (and/or afterlife).

Sadly, it is only the extremists we pay attention to and allow to form our opinions for much of the population.

While I don't subscribe to reincarnation, we are basically recycled and that give me comfort that something, somewhere in some future time will be made of my atoms that have been scattered. What happens to the self, I don't know. But the laws of conservation prevent it from being lost entirely. What it changes into, who knows?

Benjamin Franklin's Epitaph (Written in 1776)
The Body of B. Franklin, Printer,
Like the Cover of an old Book,
Its Contents torn out,
And stript of its Lettering & Gilding,
Lies here, Food for Worms.
But the work shall not be lost;
For it will, as he believed, appear once more
In a new and more elegant Edition
Corrected and improved
By the Author. -

Without religion, the world would be the same dystopia as it is now.

{And this is coming from a Catholic! :wink: }

some thing we are god's throw of the dice. others think we are a complex computer simulation from echelons beyond reality, a grand hologram projected in downrezzed 3D into this universe we know and endure. still others think we are some kind of mysterious cosmic fart in the winds of time. :shrug:

It's a Jim Carrey movie where he plays a man who doesn't know that he is the star of a worldwide reality show.

It's worth the look. Very existential in it's makeup and execution.

As for what people believe. I really don't care. Just don't try to tell me that you (the all inclusive you) have the answer.

What is right for one is not right for another. And we are such tiny little specs in the universe. How can we hope to arrive at such answers at our limited development.
