I identify myself as Buddhist. I studied at a temple for 2 years and received the precepts in a formal ceremony in 1998. There is a lot of misunderstanding about what Buddhism is. Popular media portrayals are sometimes well-intentioned and sometimes not------even the well-intentioned ones can be skewed. Please know that there are as many differences in Buddhist practices as there are many differences in Christian practices.

I am happy for those of you who say you have been helped by religion or philosophy, and I am saddened by the deep hurt that some religions and philosophies have caused.

I'm told the Book of Mary, which didn't make it into the Bible, (gee wonder why,lol), has some striking relationships to the teachings of The Buddha. I've been told if only the Bhagavad-gita had survived the other teachings, the concept would have survived. It's a good read.
