Declaration of Independence
This will only make things worse for those people.
What is it that the EU does that they can't do for themselves?
Well, the EU lowers trade barriers that might actually be helping them keep jobs.
Apparently, Mars UK employs a bunch of people and the EU is a huge market for them. If barriers go up thanks to Brexit, as they most certainly will, Mars UK might become Mars France or Mars Germany...
So, you think the UK can't "lower trade barriers" (whatever that means)?
The British gov. is incompetent? Fools? They can't figure it out?
They weren't able to fight the Nazis alone. It was only the US convoys that gave them a chance.

The British Government cannot compel the EU to lower import tariffs.
It would be in the EU's interests to raise a lot of trade barriers, such as tariffs, in order to lure manufacturing AWAY from the UK and into the EU.
As a matter of fact, the EU would have every reason to discourage trade with the UK now.
The fools here are the Brexiters.

Do you know when the British Government last negotiated an international trade agreement?
There are precisely ZERO trade negotiators in the employ of the Department of Trade and Investment. All the trade negotiators work for the EU in Brussels.
If the United Kingdom is to negotiate a free trade agreement with Europe--and it is essential to their well being that they do--then the starting position is EFTA. But EFTA means paying dues and accepting free movement of people. If the UK is to negotiate a new arrangement out of whole cloth, then it is going to take a damn sight longer than two years. And that means WTO rules in the interim.
Unless, of course, a new Prime Minister sees sense and calls an election.

I said practically alone not completly alone. It would have been harder without lend
lease but they would have survived. If US never supported them at all they would have survived but would have to have signed an very unfavorable peace treaty. They would have survived because of thier charactor and Hitler's mistakes. Even with lend lease if the Germans used the airpower they were used to terror bomb cities on those evacuating Dunkirk the war would have been practically over.
Without America the Axis powers would have dominiated the world for the next few decades at least. To thier credit US military came into the war unprepared and quickly became a supreme fighting force. The US entered the European Front not as a direct result of Pearl Harbor but because Germany declared war on America three days later.

The UK is probably fine on this front. A great deal of this is due to the fact that they have a large financial sector, and so while they have a large external debt, they also hold a great deal of foreign debt as well.
Look at Luxembourg--their external debt is >3000% of GDP, something like 25 times the UK's external debt per capita. No one's talking about a Luxembourg default.

Yozzers, 3000%.
What about this:
"The truth however is much worse, factoring in all liabilities including state and public sector pensions, the real national debt is closer to £4.8 trillion, some £78,000 for every person in the UK."
http://www.nationaldebtclock.co.uk/
The US in the same boat, we are at $837, 235 dollars of debt + liability per citizen.

However, we have the world's currency.
...Well , fair enough , it was the voting Brit populace's decision (And I haven't read every post here yet .) - But - speaking of " Independence " , what if Scotland , as has been speculated , decides " Well , WE find the E.U. quite bonny , T.Y. very much " and decides to spilt ? Even Wales , too (land of ~ well , enough of my ancestors that I get all Yank-sentimental about it !) , I've seen it speculated , might decide to ankle ! !! !! !! !! !!
Oh , and I saw that it Northern Irish are now tending to call for joining Dublin...........
Devolution , all right ! !! !! !! !! !!

...Does anybody know of a " newsstand " site where I could see what kind of headlines - anyway (It might be nice to read the whole stories but I might not have time for that ) the UK nationals ` especially the tabloids ~ ran on this ? I like headlines , and sometimes , coming from the New York City area , have tried to see what sort of headers he N.Y. Post and (especially) Daily News would do on a subject ! !! !! !! !! !!
(However , I guess I should spell this out , I am asking for some site showing the UK press' headlines describing the " Leave " decision , not NYC tabloids ~ Suppose it's rather doubtful they'd put that on the front page , certainly not as the main story .)

Was wondering that too. Scotland might secede from Britain, and they may secede from Britain AND also rejoin the EU..
...Your second possibility especially .
The highest-ranking SNP minister in the Scottish government was ALREADY saying " a new referendum is a possibility " ! I saw a rather more UK-oriented blog from someone who said , " though (the SNP minister I am referring to) doubtless wants a new referendum eventually , she probably doesn't really want one NOW " .
Actually , tho' , I saw that Wales , according to the statistics voted MORE for Leave than England did ! !! !! !! !! !!

Although Scotland voted overwhelmingly to Remain in all 32 council areas,Northern Ireland was by a majority only with some areas being solid Leave voters.Wales, somewhat surprisingly, actually bucked the Celtic trend and voted emphatically to Leave. For a lot of purposes, despite Welsh devolution,England and Wales are administered jointly and would be more naturally inclined to stick together.
