I have no idea what meditation is, never experienced it, and the one time I tried it, it gave me a headache. Sometimes it seems like the whole concept is a crock. The closest thing to meditation I had is what NTs call a "religious experience." That happened when I visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem; it's the holiest site in Judaism. For those who can relate to having a "religious experience" (doesn't have to be a Jewish one), is that in any way similar to how meditation is supposed to feel?

I use it to relieve headaches on the rare occasion that I have one. I myself and many others can assure you that meditation is not a "crock" :). Many people that practice meditation often report feelings of bliss or an enlightening experience. Some even contend that it can allow dreams to become more lucid if meditation is practiced before sleep. I have read that some people that have not been able to dream often, have reported an increase in the frequency of dreams, and even an increased sense of well being. Others have stated that it may increase immune response.

I have tried it and liked it, but my question is how do you get people to let you alone to do it? I try asking the people I deal with daily, and they absolutely won't stop talking to me. This sometimes happens all day long and into the night.

I've been doing tai chi for 17 years now, on a daily basis, it's also called "meditation in movement".

When I do it lot, like now, I get moments of clarity, and it helps me interact with people.

I've tried seated meditation but my knees starts to swell so I'm stuck with tai chi. I did enjoy just to sit and empty my mind, and time went on so fast. I'm fascinated by zen theres no chaos just order and peace. I tried tibetan buddhism but it was not for me.

I like people who go deep into meditation, they have a beaty that comes from within which makes you wanna be near them. All the time.

I do it occasionally. If I'm at an event with a spirt room, or even better, a labyrinth, I'll do it. But otherwise I don't really get the chance. I need a designated place for it, and I can't make one at home.

With all this talk of meditation, I tried it a few days ago. I sat in the middle of my room, turned off the lights, closed the blinds, and tried to clear my mind and focus. This sounded contradictory, but I was determined to feel at least something. I read somewhere that you need to repeatedly whisper a single word to yourself, since it helps clear your mind. The word I chose was "shalom" (Hebrew for "peace"). Being a Hebrew word, it has overtones of Judaism, which I thought would be helpful. In the end, I achieved nothing, only gave myself a light headache. So I went outside into my yard, smoked a cigarette, and when I was done, I felt much better that I did throughout the whole meditation process.

So can someone describe step-by-step, in techinical detail, how I can actually do this elusive thing called meditation? I'm getting very frustrated. :x
