I agree with that.

But history has imbued Nationalism with a negative connotation.

I understand. Words and definitions matter in the context of the exchange of ideas and debate. It's bad to blindly assume that we're all talking about the same definition since there are multiple definitions of the word which is why I asked the question.

So what then does globalism end in?

Happiness, freedom, individual liberty, prosperity, personal safety and harmony?

I’d like a compromise between the two.

Tell me, what is the track record of that sort of utopian idealism?

Nationalism = national pride.
Hats wrong with pride in ones nation?

Sometimes, people have so much pride in their nation that they dislike other nations.

One can be patriotic about ones own country (I am) without believing other countries are inferior.

"Patriotism" is loyalty to your country.

"Nationalism" is a little different. Its loyalty to the tribe, or the ethnic group.

Nationalism isn't necessarily bad but its more dangerous than patriotism, and is more akin to racism than just patriotism.

Probably the closest to an "opposite" of Nationalism would be "Globalism."

Antisemites have come to use terms like globalism and cosmopolitanism as code words for Jews. Again, a darker aspect of nationalism creeping toward fascism.

So does that mean that if a person uses a term like globalism they should be considered an antisemite? Is the term "globalism" considered to be co-opted by antisemites as one of their buzzwords? Are you saying "globalism" as far as you're concerned has taken on or has been reduced to a singular and antisemitic definition and therefore should no longer be used by people who are not anti-Semitic? I just want to make sure I understand your comment.

Of course it doesn't mean that everyone who uses the word "globalism" is an Antisemite. But it certainly makes me wary of Bannon, Miller, and other Trumpites who do use it in such a way.

“Globalist” is a term which is frequently used by people who don’t like to mix with ethnicities and races other than their own.
