there are continuing grumblings in washington state, from east of the cascades, to join up with idaho as well. on the lefty side of things, the idea has been repeatedly floated of the western parts of california joining up with the western part of oregon and washington state, and possibly somehow aligning with BC.

I think it's a good idea. California is a good example. The densely populated metro areas are opposite to most of the rest of the state in political ideology. People living in those densely populated areas might think: "too bad" in relation to the ideology of the remainder of the state (ie too bad for you, we have the votes and we call the shots whether you like it or not for the whole state). Actually, I think the rest of the state inhibits the ideology of the populated areas from implementing everything they'd like to implement and vice versa. Keeping everything as one is limiting each "side" from having things the way they want.

It's almost like a bad marriage that stays together "just because". Good?

I say split and let the populated areas be able to create their idea of utopia unencumbered by opposition from the rest of the state and let the rest of the state be how they want to be.

my fear about the newly "liberated" right wing areas, is that within their borders it would be akin to feudal times for those of the wrong race or those without money, IOW slavery or indentured servitude with no restraint from government, no regulation. sooner or later they'd declare war on the rest, i believe that if lincoln had not have done what he did, the south would have pulled a stunt like that on the rest of us. if not for a critical mass of folk with ethics, there'd still be slavery today. and even then, in fact, there was still a form of slavery going on in the south during jim crow before WW2 [from the book "Slavery By Another Name" by Douglas Blackmon], where POC were press-ganged in a most brutal fashion, often not fed and worked until they dropped.

Liberty Island is part of New York State.

It is also part of NYC, and its Borough of Manhattan.
