Can you provide evidence to support your assumption this is because of a fear of a "MAGA" stampede? Or is this yet another false claim, aimed to dehumanise those whose views you do not agree with?

Given NY is a highly "progressive" state, with mainly "progressive" people there, were there to be a win by the Democrats, there would be a lot more people out celebrating who could intervene against the small number of "MAGA" (as you refer to them) supporters. However, were the result to be otherwise, there would be significantly fewer supporters of the winning side there to prevent riots\looting by the losers, and so things like boarded up stores would be a prudent approach by the storeholders to protect against this situation.

I would expect a LOT more "chaos" from the more fanatical Trump supporters than from Biden supporters -- at least if the following news story is any indication:
