The movement should be labeled "WASP Nationalism" -- WASP being an acronym for "White, Anglo-Saxon Protestant"
Their brand of Protestantism leaves the Christ as a mere figurehead, and also ignore His message of peace, love, and inclusion.
Yes, Jesus was a Liberal. Read His Sermon On The Mount -- it is all the proof you will need.
WASPs generally tended to be very wealthy, so there's that.
When I see the acronym WASP this is what comes to mind:

The band known as "We Are Sexual Perverts."

WASPs had largely become secular and assimilated other European groups into the mainstream by the time the postwar Generation turned toward Religion in the '70s. Christian Nationalism may/may not succeed in its goals (Evangelical Christianity's influence has been in steep decline since the early aughts at least, and was largely a phenomena among people born 1940ish-1965, because of increasing secularization and Supreme Court cases that secularized public institutions).
Don't forget French Canadian Catholic in this regards. The funny thing is they were a group of people who crossed a porous land border to take cheap jobs in New England who were insistent on keeping their language, customs, and religion. Sounds familiar.
Yeah. I have a "Canuke" ancestor. The Francophone population of Canada, and of Quebec, is mostly Catholic. And that plus the large minority of Anglophones who are Catholic puts Catholics over the top as being the majority religion in Canada (despite the country sharing the US's English Protestant roots). So the US is surrounded on ALL sides by ...Papists!! !!
Also this "Anglo Christian nationalism" appeals to a White subculture that actually is NOT very Anglosaxon, but more Celtic in its roots. The Scotch Irish spearheaded the settlement of Appalachia and of much of the south beyond creating much of the foundation of the redneck culture of today. Many country singers are of Scotch Irish, or of Irish, descent, like Bob Wills, and Reba MacIntyre. Nashville Fiddler Rodney Crowell did an album with the Chieftan's. One of the Chieftan's asked him "where did you learn to play the fiddle like THAT?" He replied "I dunno. Some old guy in Kentucky showed me". The Chieftans member said "thats exactly how they play it in Galway." A number of authors have suggested that the American Civil War was in part and extension of the Celtic vs Anglosaxon struggle in the British Isles. The Confederate battleflag (the stars and bars) is actually based upon the Scottish flag...the X shaped "Cross of St. Andrew".
The bottom line seems to be that Christian Nationalism is no more than bigotry and hatred wrapped in the American flag and 'justified' by a distorted and self-serving translation of the Scriptures, Gospels, Epistles, and Prophesies found in the Christian Bible.
When will those fools catch on to the fact that for most of the free world, the Bible is just another book on a shelf?

Given that for hundreds of years, simply waving the bible around has been an effective sword and shield with which to enforce and defend personal privilege, I don't think many of them even care if the bible is true. It's actual value is social power, not religious "truth".
I am not an Atheist, I just hate religion.

It's not so much a Protestant phenomena. Protestants were setting aside their differences with Catholics around the time of Nixon's Big Tent. Mike Pence is an Evangelical Catholic (it's a thing). The 1940-1965 birth year cohort left Mainline Protestant sects like the Episcopal, Presbyterians etc mostly because of women's ordination and this was not repeated among post-Boomer generational cohorts; 1/4 of Americans polled within the last few years have reported that they are Evangelical, but that is likely not true.

As a Lutheran, I would be considered an apostate, which is worse than being a non-believer, according to the CNs.
Some Christian Nationalists do indeed want to relive the First Century.I know many of them. However many of the people at my church who are Christian Nationalists would want to live in the early to mid 20th Century again also but their primary focus would be to going back to the First Century. The Christian Nationalists who want to live in the First Century Again would be Restorationists most likely not evangelical.
It now seems fair to point out that none of the most ardent right-wingers on this website selected a favorable option -- the only options selected at this point reject Christian Nationalism. Either our right-wingers are lying about their perspectives, they are lying about the options they selected, or they simply did not participate in the poll at all.
I am a Right-Winger and I hate theocracy.I selected the "not a good idea" option.I want America to stay a constitutional republic. I would never want it to be a Christian theocracy. Some of the reasons why I dont want theocracy is because I am libertarian and also because I dont want to be discriminated against for being part of a minority religious group.
