If Trump wins...
I don't think the GOP can ever go back to the days of Eisenhower and Nelson Rockefeller (who deserved wayyy more respect). Yet this is the only way they could stay relevant.
And now, even if they did become a much more socially liberal party, they will forever be known as the party of Trump and 1/6.

Judging by your posts so far, the reason is disinformation, lots and lots of disinformation.
There’s a really good article from The Atlantic called ”I’m running out of ways to explain how bad this is” that talks about this.
Choice quote:
“The primary use of ‘misinformation’ is not to change the beliefs of other people at all. Instead, the vast majority of misinformation is offered as a service for people to maintain their beliefs in face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.”
Nobody is getting persuaded or convinced with this stuff. Everyone knows it’s all fake. It exists entirely to keep people who are already in from leaving.
The people spreading this stuff know this and do it on purpose. They know you won’t believe it- because you’re not their target demographic.

The trouble with the current situation is the US is getting stomped from internal mismanagement and the one of the biggest, most obvious eye sores is the southern border with increasingly woke-dominated education…

You won't have a cushy place in The Party. If this place flips into a Maoist revolution we're probably all dead.

Victor Davis Hanson is getting concerned about whitelash, something Rudyard Lynch (WhatIfAltHist) has been talking about as well lately.
Pretty much the world runs on the almost magnetic ferrofluid-like movement of idiots and permanent (and as often violent) psychological children from one political extreme to the other. It puts the lie to human intelligence that adults are required to act in these play-dramas that a five year old kid would be looking at like the people participating it wondering if they are high or just incredibly stupid. The tragic truth is that's what 'bad faith' looks like.

I remember Trump being asked about it and it wasn't even on his radar. What people tend to forget though, why I don't think he'd easily support it, and this becomes even more peer pressure with RFK Jr. now as a major influence, Trump is more of a Clinton Democrat where the party lines have shifted and a Clinton Democrat would now be a Republican. He's a social belligerent and a showman, its part of how he works the room, but when pushed he typically doesn't want to mess with people's rights.
NYT article discussing his disavowal of Project 2025:
https://www.nytimes.com/article/project-2025.html
I also get that women are *incredibly* paranoid about losing their legal rights and I get it.
My thought - I almost think The Heritage Foundation are never-Trump-ers and that's where they were coming from with this (ie. it was their Harris / Walz vote).
Heritage Foundation is very pro-Trump. The never-Trump group you're probably thinking about is Americans for Prosperity (Charles Koch's group).

"Russian" and "Soviet" are two different things.
The Soviet Union ceased to exist thirty five years ago.
The current GOP is pro Russian Republic ...because "Russia has turned Christian".

So ...imho ... it is like " drinking the Proverbial Koolaide" most US citizens seem quite sure there will be choices to be made in our Country...Illusion of having the power to vote will help us .....The WEF and a few other international
gathering get to make decisions regarding our world . USA has many wealthy people ..whom in the end will make
the decisions for us . And whatever their beliefs maybe ... In the event , noone has been watching , Our government is now a Corprotacracy....A country run by Corporations .( the biggest) . And we have a fiat currency now . This was how Benito Musselini made Italy work in WW2 ..And these things that are coming to pass based on the needs of the few.
Corporations and militaries Must have warm bodies...production ( must continue). Societal standards need change for these big Corps. In history we have several examples of population control . Chinese one child per family and it best be a boy . until last several years ago. " that did not turn out well" then come Japan . Operating on a highly isolationist population. Now they do not have enough young people for jobs . Corporations operate based on facts . What is good for the body Corporate. So when the time comes, and the Corporate USA needs more bodies . Not only will abortion be banned but comnercial contraception may be hard to find possibly. And if their is any trade War..Guess who loses..( poor or disadvantaged people .) will pay the price on unavailabity of things and price increases....And generally you might want to trim the fat on your society....(useless eaters) a Trumpism , i was told. Several States have already instituted State Assisted suicide, for those deemed incurable ? .... Incurable because technology and opportunity and access to best worlds medicines can offer is blocked or not provided. And the Corporation that is the AMA ,is onboard .
So if for a minute you think about , who might be considered a useless eater, Might get a feel for our future ..?
Sorry to be glum...but this information is all around us now..btw,does anyone know what constitutes a 503c corporation.
Perhaps most all Churches in the US, where do they stand in a Corprotocracy world..
But I will continue to vote anyhow..kinda feels like gambling these days ..even if you win big, You will be reported to the IRS by the casino. After all Casinos are Corporations too.
Just perhaps voting democratic, will slow this process, but with a stacked SCOTUS maynot help .Gawd help US

“Everyone’s a communist except me” is not a very good talking point.
I very much doubt any revolution will happen in the US, much less a Maoist one. Though to be fair, there is a group of people who have photo of their dear leader on the wall in their house, and it’s not democrats
No, what I’m afraid of is an America that will do nothing when its rights are stolen by the state. Which is exactly what republicans are doing and have been very explicit about accelerating.

Indeed there will be no leftist revolution. I don't know how anyone thinks that is even practical in this super powerful country where a lot of the military is right wing.
It's like... people won't even do the bare minimum and vote, so how in the world would they do anything more substantive? It's monumentally foolish. The far right has made so many gains thanks to not only the far right voters but also the people who refuse to vote.
Purist leftists have been refusing to vote for Democrat candidates "to teach the DNC a lesson" for many elections now and the DNC has not learned any lesson, instead the extreme right keeps on taking more and more power and toppling over further human rights (like abortion!) and guardrails to our democracy. "Teaching the DNC a lesson" has been a spectacular failure and I need people to learn that due to all of the gains the far right has made, the far right are the only ones who can do accelerationism. The Dems can not accelerate when they're always on the defense against fascism.
And when I said the right is the only one who can accelerate? Well they sure as heck ARE. Things that were previously considered untenable are rapidly approaching the mainstream of the Republican party. Things like banning of contraceptives, no-fault divorce, gender transition for not just minors but adults, and pretty much all freedoms and rights guaranteed to us since the Civil Rights Era. Even actually stuff before that is becoming more talked about in right wing circles, like women's right to vote. (That last one may seem very extreme and yes it is. I mean it is a constitutional amendment... but since when as the right cared about the constitution? P2025, Agenda 47 etc. are all about unraveling the government including its checks and balances. TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. Even if they don't achieve that [hopefully not] the stuff that they do achieve will be 1. already devastating and 2. paving the way for further removal of freedoms and rights. The right will accelerate when they can, but are also glad to do it incrementally so it can cause a further cascade to hell for us all)
I'm not exaggerating. The Speaker of the House gave a speech where he says that the Civil Rights era is where everything went wrong with the US. He is the Speaker of the House.

No, it's explicitly people who want to use 'power' language on people they don't know online over long distances. You don't have to care what's real or true (a lot of these worldviews are morally gratifying, in the most myopic and self-centered sense, social climbing and self-importance building tools), you'll just get negatively surprised a lot more by reality than people who took care of that up front.
The only way we have peace or a normalish looking world again is if we find ways to break Moloch (in the Scott Alexander / Slate Star Codex sense). People chasing each other in circles just tribalizes and feeds right into the dynamic where socialists excite nationalists and both spiral down the drain and drag everyone else with them and still no change - just a lot of bodies and maybe slightly different rich people filling the same chairs.

As someone who is religiously and spiritually very different than most others, I’m really concerned about the future. I’m genuinely concerned about future religious persecution.
I too am very concerned about the rights of religious minorities, as well as other people that the Christian religious right wing frowns upon (e.g. LGBTQ+ people).
One of my biggest fears is of the possibility of police departments taking QAnon and related conspiracy theories seriously, thereby reviving the Satanic Ritual Abuse witch hunts of the 1980's. (See the WP thread QAnon, Blood Libel, and the Satanic Panic.)
This could happen regardless of who wins the election (because too many cops have extreme right wing leanings), but could be especially dangerous and difficult to stop if Trump wins.

Organizational memory will hold that back quite a bit, especially for as much of an embarrassment as the Satanic panic ended up being for police and profilers.
The west coast case was even more interesting to the degree that Nick and Zena Schreck (Zena formerly LaVey) had a lot to do with talking people back to reality on what it actually was and wasn't (even though Zena, for quite sensible reasons, couldn't get far enough from her dad - out of respect for her she was not defending CoS and it's other problems). That was a great example of the witch-hunter detectives actually being open-minded enough to listen to practicing satanists to figure out what they were dealing with and it saved a lot of grief.
