The Chinese medical practices of traditional medicine have been in use for 6000 years..And their population doesnt seem worse for wear ....this goes on and on Indias ayervedic medicine..etc. Your parents were indoctrinated to believe all Doctors.. I have actually walked out of one head of nuerology dept head , within minutes of asking him what guidelines he wish to apply to myself...T.he guidelines he was using were outdated and no longer applied.
Taught to trust and believe law enforcement.. When the officer is hoping with baited breath ,that you will be his next felony arrest on record, so he can advance in his dept. Pros3cuetors that have no compunctions about throwing you under the bus just to get a conviction. We live under a corporation Nation .. It depends what medical issues you've got. If you can trace the cause to something specific, then western medicine is the greatest thing to ever have been developed.
However, if you can't tie the cause to some sort of specific cause, then it kind of just sucks. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda are more into inductive reasoning and have a lot more in common with the medical practices of Europe prior to the development of modern scientific methods. They do work for some things, but it can be a challenge to adequately determine if it's working and for which patients it's appropriate. The PRC government is spending a fair amount of money on research into TCM to try and figure it out, but with acupuncture, it can be quite difficult to conduct the sort of research to really establish if it's working.
It is worth recognizing that there's a reason why Europe and the West abandoned their previous system using the humors, leaches and the like, it often times didn't work and in some cases was fatal. And, there's a reason why there is a lot of Western techniques that show up in India and China.
