evidence is in the mind of the beholder because reality is what you make.

Evidence is what's produced by a claimant to justify his or her assertions.

Life is what you make of it, while reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. An objective reality exists, yet you view it through the spectacles of your attitudes, beliefs, disabilities, and values.

To treat reality with your imagination is one thing, but to imagine your own reality is another. It used to be that asylums were once full of people who created their own realities; now we either medicate them into insensibility or simply elect them to public office.

If if believe the stories about Jesus and his miracles, if I believe in angels and 3-day resurrections, how can I not believe in UFOs? It would be silly and hypocritical to disbelieve this but believe that given a corresponding lack of hard evidence in both cases.

One definition of the word "miracle" is simply "unexplainable event."

The mysteries of this world make life worth living. 8)

Minor quibble: a miracle is better defined as an unexplained event that impresses people. They are rarely unexplainable, so far as we can tell.

Miracles are rarely unexplainable? I would disagree with you there.

Ok. Pick an event that you would consider miraculous, and let's discuss it. Make sure it's an event that we are likely to agree actually happened. You know what I mean - stories about St. Francis being able to levitate just don't count.

Do you want names, dates, places, times, documentation, and the testimonies of professional witnesses (police, medical personnel, scientists, et cetera)?

Or would a simple "God Did It" work for you?

That's ASPIE, And I can't help it. :P

Seriously, a "Miracle" is usually any alleged event that seems to defy not only common sense, but the laws of physics as we know them and any reasonable extrapolation thereof.

Now, can we get back on topic, please? It has to do with "UFOs" and extra-terrestrial aliens - if I remember right - and had nothing at all to do with the fallacies of religion.

I'm really curious to see if anyone will take me up on this, actually. The last time I made this offer, I was confronted with the amazing evidence for Padre Pio's stigmata. Yup, it sure is a miracle when a guy's hands bleed. There is just no way that a mere human could cause his own hands to bleed:)

Especially one so pious and devout as a Roman Catholic Christian! They would never fake a miracle just to impress the ignorant and fill the church coffers!

Maybe he was an extraterrestrial alien and used the power of Indigo to telekinetically force the blood from his palms! Aliens are devious that way...

Right, good point. I easily go off track.

Aliens. I'm certainly not the first to point this out, but I'll take credit anyway. There are four possibilities here:

1) They are not visiting us at all.
2) They are visiting, but they don't want to be noticed. If all those UFO reports and abduction reports are valid, that indicates that these aliens are impressively incompetent.
3) They are visiting, but they do want to make contact. If so, they are again impressively incompetent. Land on the front lawn of CNN. Mission accomplished.
4) They are visiting, but they don't care at all about whether they are noticed (ie, we are ants to them). If that's the case, then it's very odd that we don't sometimes see them walking around (or hovering over) downtown London or Chicago during the day, going about their business without any regard to us ants.

I tend to go with option 1.

option 1 is the best assuming they're not incompetant. if they're a part of a subsidized government space exploration program, i could easily see them being incompetent...just because the technology improves doesn't mean the person does, our society is prime example of that.

with that said, it'd be pretty obvious if there were aliens present and to keep it secret; that'd be a lot of people to be quiet and that'd never happen.

more info on both sightings on my blog, these animations were my first attempt.

That sounds to me like Ball Lightning.

Sometimes, this is not very often, I can see a ball of fire over my house. It happens on sunny days...
