That is true. There is no Church of Atheism. Atheists never organized crusades or burned those that disbelieved at the stake. Atheists don't strap on suicide bombs to shred believers.

Stalin started off as a potential priest in the orthodox church. Instead he decided that the Party and the State was God. He was not an atheist. He worshiped false gods.

Hitler made Volk, Blut and Race his gods. Again, he was no atheist. He made the German Volk his idol.

That is what happens when fanatical idol worshipers gain great political powers.

"And then the People bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made"

from the lyrics to The Sound of Silence.

In the history of the human race, atheists are rare. People love to believe in the gods they fashion with their own hands and minds.

And whatever his personal beliefs might have been, he made a show of attending church.

Atheists and agnostics sometimes do organize themselves into social groups, sometimes with the intent of charity and other goals.

Are you trying to make Hitler into some kind of good guy hero-type?

I am astounded.

I thought Hitler said he was a Catholic. I remember reading somewhere that he wanted to buy Mexico and spread Catholicism worldwide.

It is funny how just about any topic can lead to Hitler.

He must have been Catholic, only a Catholic would be capable of such things ;)

So am I. How could you jump, leap, fling yourself to such a conclusion? Hitler was an idol worshiper. Your ability to think critically is in need of an overhaul.

"Laying of hands" topic

Remember that slavery, racism, bigotry, misogyny and corporal punsihment were all practiced in the bible. A progressive religion would have investigated these injustices and written commentaries condemning them, meaning there would have been a paper trail. As it is, since many take the bible literally, evils are sanctioned because they are written.

True believers "practice what they preach."

These things are not exclusive to Christianity or to any religion, for that matter. What a flimsy strawman!

I do not care about religions for now... Religions are only for people who believe. What if I choose NOT to believe on what others say and just live with my conscience?

I have to live with my conscience regardless of what I believe. Having a conscience and having religious beliefs aren't the same thing. Any sociopath could fake it if they wanted to. Charisma is not a spiritual quality.

Christ-inanity topic

Any religion that does not examine itself from time to time to seek improvement for its adherents is at risk of becoming rotten to the core. The unexamined life is not worth living. I think this is a Greek saying, very apt, and predates Christianity.

Adherents to a religion (not exclusive to Christianity) who do not themselves seek to eradicate injustices from its tenets and beliefs is doing more harm than the good the religion is supposed to be espousing. This is why many, if not most religions are hypocritical. Oh, they practice what they preach, as I wrote above, but they are practicing the injustices written down in their scriptures. Ironic, rolling eyes.

Any religion based on the hero worship of one person, place or thing is a straw man in itself.
