While you're at it you should get a copy of Dianetics (i.e. for Scientologists) and there are probably some writings on the tooth-fairy and Santa Claus too... :D :D :D

..oh i forgot to mention:
It is commendable that you want to arm yourself with knowledge to throw in their faces when you argue against their religion. But you have to remember that it is impossible to argue with religious fanatics (or religious people in general) because they *don't listen to reason*, so any reasonable argument you can come up with is just waved away.. because they don't believe for a reason they just..believe.
So you might as well not waste your time.. :?

I try to be open-minded and nonjudgemental and read "sacred" texts with an unbiased sense, but when I read the book of Mormon, I couldn't stop laughing. To be perfectly honest, I can't understand how anybody can actually take that book seriously.

The fact that a large many people do take it seriously is an excellent indication of the capability of religiously inclined people everywhere to think clearly.

I think it's cool that he is reading it. People often only read what they already believe.
I tried to read the book of mormon but it was all about war. John Smith seemed very angry.
But, I really didn't give it a chance. I also put it down rather quickly. The mormons I've met were all pretty nice tho.

Not true! I used to read both Superman Comics and Mad Magazine and believed none of it!

I perceive certain parallels between the Mormons and Moslems.

Joseph Smith supposedly translated the Book of Mormon from Gold Plates (which some angels had lent to him).

An angel revealed the Koran to Mohammed while he was in some sort of a trance in a cave, and he had someone outside the cave record what he was saying.

Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon in something resembling King James English, to give it a false glow of religious legitimacy. It is absolutely the craziest thing that I've ever tried to read. I couldn't make it all the way through. It is much worse than Ayn Rand drivel.

I've not read it. What do you think?

If you look at the life of Joseph Smith (the book of mormon's author), it'll play out like a national treasure spin-off. The guy's basically a fraud, and he makes stuff up as he goes along. The book of mormon was made under false pretenses (that native americans were a lost tribe of israel), although it is very imaginative. My advice is not to read it unless you plan on socializing with mormons (this usually leads to mormonism).
