although a certain amount of gun control will stop these bizzare psycho killers like the one in newtown.but the common street criminal and gang banger benifits greatly from gun control.most street thugs are for more gun control.they make money of of it and the stolen black market guns keep them anonomous and makes it harder to tie them to a shooting.

You do have to seriously contemplate, if the mom had never bought any guns, would this have happened? Maybe the kid could have gotten his own guns, but it would have been more difficult for him. The mom made it all too easy.

So, what would be the difference if crooks started using AR instead of SKS rifles? They're still a fraction of a fraction of guns used in crime.

Canada has more guns per capita than the USA
but the murder rate is considerably less [way less]

Canadians use hunting rifles, pistols are rare, as are assault rifles

And he could have just rammed a van full of high explosives into the school. Same, or better effect.

Explosives are regulated to hell and back, even in the US (probably in part due to the bombing of a school in the early 1900s, which killed lots of children). It didn't stop Timothy from killing 168 people plus hundreds wounded decades later.

The means don't matter. The people do. People. Humans. Why do they do these things? Figure that out, and fix it, and you win the prize.

To put an end to mankind's horrors, one must get rid of what makes us human.

EVERY TIME one of these shootings occurs, there's always a big fuss about what makes a killer and things to look for and why they are the way they are and then guess what? It just happens again. So what's the point of all the studying? Doesn't' change anything.

Or are you stating that guns have other purposes? Ones with in built defibrillators, or potato peelers?

It’s evident that you know nearly nothing about firearms and that’s being generous on my part.

Whatever happened to the police instead of vigilantism? Isn't that what they're for? Trained and paid by the public to protect the public?

Protecting yourself isn’t vigilantism by any means. What exactly do you do when an armed attack on you is imminent or in progress? Take out the cell phone, dial 911, if you can get a signal and the call doesn’t drop you get through to a 911 operator and eventually your request for help gets queued and eventually the cops show up. Just in time to call the ambulance or coroner for you.
There’s a saying that when seconds count the police are only minutes away and it is all too often true. It will never get better because there is no way to make a cop appear out of thin air.

Isn't that what they're for?

I’m more proficient than at least half of them and that’s not saying much.

Well if you're not a policeman or in the military, I'd be highly suspicious to those that take an interest in objects and methods to kill people. That screams danger to me.

That’s paranoia plain and simple. There is nothing else to describe it.

I'd be calling the police if you lived in my county, let alone anywhere else.

And what do you think they’re going to do besides laugh at you? Let me let you in on something: The police know citizens in their communities and state have guns and most of them support it without reservation for reasons that are apparently over your head. I’m a volunteer range safety officer (RSO) at one of the local shooting ranges where city, county, state, and even federal LEO’s train sometimes so I know something about this.

What next, bomb creation 101 for casual interest? C'mon.

More paranoia.

An AR-15 is not an “automatic assault rifle” in the first place. Any knowledgeable gun owner would know that.
No, they would continue to use semi-auto rifles like the AR-15 because they are already here in abundance. Banning something does not make it go away otherwise there would be no crimes at all.

Quote:
because of the rise in the AR's popularity for hunting more guns stores are carying more of them, which then gives criminals the chance to break into these gun stores and steal them.

B&E or any other kind of theft or robbery is already illegal. Saying that something is bad just because it’s highly sought after by thieves is weak. It’s a nanny state approach to a problem.

His mother wasn't the one that pulled the trigger and should be left out of this. If he’d slit his mother’s throat with her own paring knife would you say that she committed suicide because she had bought the knife at one time?

Raptor, guns and knives are two different things and some people do have to lock up their knives. Knives are just necessary to eat with. I wish someone would have told this lady to secure those guns, like, a week ago.

Maybe so, but I have never needed to defend myself from murderous intent, never want to have to, and never expect to. Its very safe where I live and basically guns are few and far between and tightly controlled.
I think thats the best solution; to have safe communities, and guns are definitely not part of that solution as they only make the environment less safe not more.
Check the stats anywhere it will show you that.
Edit: Note that doesn't mean people like you and Dox couldn't have guns, they would just be more tightly controlled.

Can't argue with that. But some are more likely to act on that horribleness than others.

You've been lucky then, and are choosing to continue to rely upon luck. Some of us don't trust luck with things like our safety. Hopefully you stay lucky, I prefer to tilt the odds in my favor.

Citation?

You mean like how my home state of Washington, with it's comparatively lax gun laws, has a lower murder rate than California, with it's strict ones? Again, citation?

So who gets to decide what is and isn't a good law? I'm a credentialed expert, most of the other experts in the gun field are going to tell you the same things I'm telling you, so are you going to get ignorant people to draft the laws because that way they'll conform to your opinions? Really, find me one firearms expert that is anti gun, just one.

Exactly quote the exact words where I exactly said that I was "suppressing information" stop lying to better your argument.

What offense would you report me to the police for? Knowing too much?

No, a person that could be owning weapons without permit. Funnily enough we learnt the first time at Dunblane.

I have dealt with gangland murders that have involved firearms, have you tried saving somebody that's been shot? Are you aware of how much damage a bullet can cause?

Could? You're were/are a gunsmith - those create guns, debating gun control - a limit on guns, bias is clearly evident here. Don't try to argue otherwise, it's stupidity.

Sadly true. Gun lobby has far far too much power.

Raptor wrote:

I've seen firearms involved in emergancy calls to paramedics, but my actual knowledge on firearms is little. And I'm happy to say that, because I don't need to. The law is clear. There illegal. End of.

Raptor wrote:

Er, that doesn't happen here. Unless you travel to a gangland like Manchester or London. We don't have a gun problem, because there's no guns in most civilized places. Americanized ganglands like Manchester do have illegal guns and the police do what they can.

You know, you've made me realize how much safer this country is. I mean with all the problems it's easy to forget, but really. Dunblane, terrible as it was, has made this country a safer country for our children to live in, and that's made ever so clear these past couple of days. It's also given us the frame of mind and society where we strive to protect the young and we can try to educate those that do not to try and change there ways. Those countries have a choice:
Children or Guns.

Oh and guess what? Three more dead.
