Almost every European country is filled to capacity with refugees, already. Even small European countries like Italy and Ireland have done their part. Even Scandinavian countries take refugees, and they didn't really have any involvement in that mess at all.

They say that a lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has the chance to put its shoes on. In this case, a lie went viral, was one of the top stories on Reddit, and was used to slander a president before the truth came out.

The backstory: Mike Hager, a U.S. citizen, said that his mother was stuck in Iraq due to President Trump's executive order restricting immigration and visa holders from certain countries. Hager claimed his mother, Naimma, who was very sick, was not allowed to travel to the U.S. on Friday despite having a green card. She then passed away in Iraq the next day....

As it turns out, the real reason why Hager's mother wasn't permitted to fly to the United States on Friday was because she had been dead for five days.

It doesn't matter, by calling lots of publicity on himself, he has cast all the other people who are caught up in this into doubt, because that's the way many people think. Also, he was already here and his mom was already dead, so he wasn't trying to get anyone in, he was trying to make the action by Trump look bad (as if this needed his incompetent help) - instead, he is revealed as a liar and he has probably made Trump look a little better.

It's what they call an "own goal" in football in the UK.

I posted a little about this in the President Trump thread. At the Nat'l Prayer B'fast this morning, they had their own analyst on hand to talk to CBSN. She cleared some things up for me, but her comments on the Muslim Ban were especially revealing. She said she had talked to people, and they did not know what to do to make us safe, but the new policy made them feel safe.

That makes it clear that they don't have a detailed understanding of either the new policy, nor of what we were doing before. Trump's tone makes them feel safe, and they don't seem fussy about the details.

They don't want or need a detailed plan, and as long as T says that there is uncertainty in the system, an increasingly harsh ban seems like the only way to make everyone feel safe. People who fear Muslims for whatever reason will follow him as far on this policy as he cares to go.

Has anyone heard an objection to "pray for Arnold" or the bragging, or the language? I would just like to have it on the record that none was heard if that is the case.

Edit: On the Australia deal, Trump gets to choose the refugees we take. He gets to vet them however he likes and there are plenty to choose from. The fact that he doesn't find that sufficient just shows where his heart is on this.

Which is precisely how Aspies get in trouble. We get the details right but the tone wrong, so we aren't believable.
