Yeah, but when a forum is created with the express purpose of discussing politics, philosophy, and religion it naturally baits uncivil discourse even if that was not the intent when the forum was created. In real life, politics and religion are two of the topics to always avoid for those who want to avoid conflict. Is it possible to have consistently civil conduct with topics like this? Yes, but unlikely enough to consider it impossible for all practical purposes.

so basically you're saying "being civil is hard, why can't I just throw mud?"


I'd be curious to know why you're even asking someone that you've called a "troll" twice in previous threads. If you're so convinced that I'm a "troll", should anything I say surprise you?

i think, as we're adults, there is and can be a middle ground in such topics. it doesn't have to be an all-out insult slam fest, put your heart on a shelf, say whatever you want whenever you want and everyone else can suck it; nor everyone drinks tea with pinkies up and eats crumpets. and i think, though it's not easy, this forum has done a far better job of maintaining that balance than many others.

toxicity as referring to damaging to/measurably adversely impacting the entire organism - as in, here, it's not just what one person says to another and that's that, but a spiral effect happens and everyone starts misreading posts/taking offense that wasn't meant/responding harshly and so it spins, all while getting more and more upset. environments can be toxic.

Your use of "can be" and "doesnt have to be" tells me you didn't quite get what I was saying. At this point I can see you're not going to get it so I'll stop here.

My vanity wouldn't allow that kind of toxicity to affect my "organism". Guess I was blessed with "so what?" and "man up" genes.
