the lakota people certainly believe they can communicate with a rock… it is after all their superior god inyan. the creator who was in existence before the beginning...

can anyone else here communicate with a god?

But did they? They believe that they can communicate with rocks, they have no proof that they did.

Until there's proof, I'll believe that they didn't.

i don't know any lakota people. let alone heard them communicate with rocks. i know i can't. and i never heard of anybody else who can.

so i simply have no belief of any kind towards the matter. i only know these few facts and thus have very little information.

simply not enough data.

because some people are not prone to jump to conclusions the way you do.

you are - once again - jumping to unfounded conclusions.

A belief isn't a conclusion.

I think some people act like it is, and they can't express their belief because they are afraid of being wrong.

A think a non-position should be what is often called as being agnostic, no? Unless you also define non-position as not caring or not bothering discussing this topic.

I tend to think about belief and lack of belief as positions regarding the issue. In such case, the atheists whose tendency is of that the unexistence of God is more probable, I wouldn't categorize that as a non-position, and certinaly not mere lack of belief. I'd say is a position that points towards a direction.

An agnostic claims to not know either way. But they still hold a belief. They might not regard them very well, but they are still there.

A lack of belief is a non-position/belief/opinion/stance. You may feel like you shouldn't bother yourself with it, but you still have a view, even if it don't seem that important to you.

Exactly, they have no choice but to be biased. Neutrality is impossible. They either believe or believe not, in various degrees, based on their personal experiences, reasoning and evidence.

Maybe God punishes atheists by turning them into rocks. That might explain something.

No, I don't actually believe that.

well, with the problem of cognitive bias and cognitive dissonance, it appears that complete neutrality may be unlikely, and likely impossible on a personal level. Considering that experience and lack of experience does seem to contribute, even if some claim pure reason behind it, I give you that.

But I can say we can still make distinctions between philosophical positions and personal positions, between epistemology and personal positions, and so on.

For example, skepticism is a neutral position, however some adeherents to skepticism wouldn't actually be neutral.

@snapcap:
I believe it is impossible to change your mind about this. You should write a book about this. Correcting the rest of the world about this should sell a lot of books. That is, if you can convince any publisher that your position has any merit.
