It's stupid when feminists say that porn is misogynistic

Didn't claim they were all mentally, just that I suspected it (I also added, perhaps wrongly) of the ones specifically doing vomit porn for free (since I can't wrap my head around that as an erotic thing.)

What would you say about those doing Japanese fish porn, I wonder?
That has to top the vomit and scat stuff.

Yep most of the people in this thread defending porn probably act completely different on the subject IRL, and imply that people who view it regularly are "pervs" or whatever.
Why don't you actually ask us instead?
I don't think people - men or women - who view porn in real life are perverts. I think they're normal human beings who have needs that cannot be fulfilled by their present circumstances alone. Some people are just like that. Even though they may have a very rich and varied sex life (perhaps even to the point of actually producing porn), they may still use porn anyway.
I wouldn't want to have a in-depth conversation about my porn viewing habits with other people (because it's none of their business - much like my sex life or my medical records are none of theirs either) but, if I was asked, I'd certainly say I watched porn and did so regularly, yes. Then I'd change the subject.
People who watch child porn and 'barely legal' porn and stuff where people get abused and hurt are definitely perverts.

I don't even know what that is. I stay away from pretty much anything supposedly erotic from Japan. It just doesn't interest me.

Child porn is disgusting and is rightly illegal. (Though note that the definition of child porn is so widely drawn as to include almost literally anything possibly relating to children in any context, sexual or not, and has long since gone into thoughtcrime territory.)
Barely legal stuff isn't really my thing, but it's legal as far as I know. (That said, Max Hardcore got himself into terrible trouble with pushing that stuff too far, and he really comes across as an extremely unpleasant character.)
"Abused and hurt" - a lot of people like to be abused and hurt, to feel pain, to be submissive, to let go of themselves, for someone else to be completely in charge of them (but also to take care of them during and afterwards). If you read the articles on the Kink websites, the public humiliation stuff sounds like great fun for everyone involved and particularly the sub. Some women out there are submissive in bed to a degree that would absolutely terrify me and probably most people.
I wouldn't mind being spanked. Nothing heavy to start off with, but I bet the sensation would be quite nice, and I bet it gets the adrenaline pumping too. I don't have anyone to do that with though.

I meant abused and hurt and not enjoying it
Perhaps if you spent less time trawling for depraved porn to tell everyone about you might find someone in real life

Okay, watched the video. I've changed my mind now about Shelley Lubben; she is a nasty piece of work. Her organisation is unethical in how it operates.
She's not the only exited porn actress to campaign against the porn industry, though. Also, the fact that she might be telling the truth about some stuff in the porn industry is enough to put me off, even if in other ways she is full of it.

This stuff no doubt does exist, but that's well in the underground and isn't easy to find for the average Internet user. I don't ever want to see that stuff, and anyone who does is pretty sick.
My point is that you can have some very, very abusive and extreme BDSM (which is torture), but is fully consensual and is being enjoyed by all.

No. I'm saying that the study answers a slightly different question than the one proposed earlier, which was roughly, 'do sex-workers, as a whole, suffer from histories of abuse, drug use, PTSD, etc'? Choosing women who are demographically like the population implies that sex work, in and of itself, does not cause these issues - but it does not answer the question of whether or not the population of women who tend to be drawn to sex work, as a whole, are the titular "damaged goods" (which, really, is a repulsive way to refer to them even if they do have difficult pasts).
Almost missed this one.
This term wasn't invented by the authors of the study. Last time I checked, the "damaged goods" claim is in fact derived from the work of everyone's favorite anti-porn feminist, Catharine MacKinnon, based on her following statement from 1993:
"Empirically, all pornography is made under conditions of inequality based on sex, overwhelmingly by poor, desperate, homeless, pimped women who were sexually abused as children."
I wonder if porn actresses would prefer this label to "damaged goods".

(Captain Obvious Clarification: MacKinnon's statement is BS. But since this is a thread where people readily claim that porn actresses are mentally ill (ranging from the elusive "majority of female porn stars are messed up in a kind of way" to the specific "Antisocial Personality Disorder/ASPD", this might not be obvious...)
The crux of the matter is, if it could be proved that porn did mainly involve women who had been abused, would this make people stop watching it? I seriously doubt it.
People enjoy watching executions so I hardly think they care what the backstory is to a porn actor/actresses life - I wish people would just be more honest about this
The porn industry is so big that of course you are going to have a certain percentage of people who have been abused in the past. You also have it in the movie industry, the music industry, the modeling industry, in anything that big. For most people, it's a choice to do porn. I'm sure there are some who were literally forced to do it, but I think for the most part it's a choice even if it's not their favorite choice. I'm sure there are some women that are held prisoner and literally forced to do it, but with the sheer number of women willing to do it, that's probably going to be a much lower number than people imagine. I am sure that in child porn the kids are forced, and I think we can all agree that child porn is absolutely horrible and shouldn't exist at all, but to say that most of the adult women who do porn do it because they are abused is probably way off the mark.
I also don't think that the entire porn industry can be blamed for what happened in someones private life. When I was married to my ex, he was abusive as hell. I worked at a hardware store during that time. Does that mean that hardware store employees are abused? He wouldn't work, so I did. I did not like that job, but we needed money. I'm sure there are girls doing porn that are abused in their private lives and just do the job for the money, but that's not because of the porn, it's because of their jackass boyfriends.
What about modeling? Look at all the models who are so thin and have eating disorders. Should we vilify the modeling and fashion industry because a lot of models have eating disorders? What about strippers? I've worked at a strip club, as a waitress. I saw a bunch of girls there supporting deadbeat boyfriends and lots of girls who had biker boyfriends who didn't work and just sat in the club drinking beer all day keeping an eye on their old lady while she was at work. That doesn't mean they are all in that situation, or that the strip club is at fault.
With the exception of people who are literally forced to do porn against their will, and held prisoner, drugged, etc, I don't think we can blame the entire industry for peoples poor life choices. Back in the late 70's early 80's some of the guys in the group I hung out with were on drugs, bad drugs - not like weed. This was a group that sometimes overlapped with the group I hung with. There were several of the guys, late teens, early 20's, who would go downtown and turn tricks for money for drugs. They would get picked up by an older guy and either let the guy give them a blowjob or they would give the guy one. These were straight guys and they did not like doing that at all and would complain about it 8 ways from Sunday every time, but when they didn't have the cash that's what they did to buy dope. They had homes, they had parents, they had food and clothing, but if they wanted drugs that's what they did. Nobody forced them. My friend who did the porn got into it from turning tricks. He would mainly get picked up by older ladies. He met some people and ended up doing porn. He didn't enjoy it because he said it was work, not just being filmed while having sex. He said you have all these people in there while you're doing it, telling you do this or that, turn this way, turn that way, and it was pretty difficult for him to actually look like he was enjoying it. He thought it would be like having sex with the older ladies, which was not enjoyable but it was tolerable. He said the girls were stuck up and rude, their boyfriends were always there but off camera, which made it very awkward, and it basically just sucked.
I imagine that wouldn't be very fun work at all. I've been filmed having sex, just for the guys own personal viewing, and he promised me that nobody would ever see it. It was just us two and it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't as fun as having sex without being aware of the camera. I could only imagine trying to have sex while making sure you are turned this way or that way and not making a horrible face or the wrong noise, etc. I would think you would have to be not self conscious at all about being naked in front of lots of people to even be able to do that job for a living.
I'm sure that there are a lot of porn movies that are made to look like the girl (or the guy) is being forced. I'm sure there are some where they are actually being forced too. But I'd lay cash money on the odds of most of it being completely consensual. While I'm sure there are people who would want to watch somebody being actually forced, most people who like that whole genre don't want it to be actual force, just the illusion of force - the same way that some people who are into kink do rape scenes where the couple actually act out a rape in private, with the parameters set up beforehand of what they can and can't do.
So, with all the people out there who are willing to do it for money, or willing to do it for free and put it on the internet, why even bother forcing somebody who doesn't want to?

Very good post.
Most women who appear in porn only do one or a few scenes and are never seen again. It's the minority of them that stay and build a career out of it, although even for them the money is often very poor. There's just no money in porn any more. And this is for several reasons.

Most women who appear in porn only do one or a few scenes and are never seen again. It's the minority of them that stay and build a career out of it, although even for them the money is often very poor. There's just no money in porn any more. And this is for several reasons.
Thanks!
I think there isn't much money in it anymore because there are so many who are willing to do it now. Also, maybe because of the risk of all sorts of new STD's out there it's probably a pretty big insurance risk for professional companies who make porn. They don't want to get sued if an actor comes down with a disease that just didn't show up on a test before they filmed.
I haven't seen much porn in years, do they use condoms now?
The last porn I "saw" I didn't even pay much attention to. I went to this guys house with my best friend, he was a friend of hers for years. We were sitting there in his house, he had never met me before, and he turns on the tv. It's porn. He actually had porn playing in the background, like a football game. He wasn't trying to come on to either one of us, she said he just always has it on.
