Anyway... Gallup recently did a poll on the historical US opinion on taking in refugees:

Image

Source: Gallup

Please note that this poll was made in November 2015... before the San Bernardino shooting...

It is interesting to see that - once upon a time in 1999 - a sizable majority of Americans (almost two thirds) were in favor of taking in an overwhelmingly Muslim group of refugees... the Kosovo refugees... It should be noted, however, that (1) thise was a fairly small group of refugees and (2) people were asked after the decision to allow them entry in the US had already been made...

Anyway, this too may partly explain the meteoric rise of Trump in the polls...

Ejecting Turkey from NATO would be a big mistake. If we have a war with Russia we would lose our first strike on Russia. Incirlik Air Base has about 100 nuclear weapons stored there and strike targets inside Russia including Moscow. This included 40 bombs earmarked for deliver by Turkish F-16 jets at Balikesir Air Base and Akinci Air Base. There are currently an estimated 50 bombs at the base, or an average of 2-3 bombs in each of the 21 vaults inside the new security perimeter. They also monitor all traffic concerning the Black Sea Fleet. The Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits is a 1936 agreement that gives Turkey control over the Bosporus Straits and the Dardanelles and regulates the transit of naval warships. The Convention gives Turkey full control over the Straits and guarantees the free passage of civilian vessels in peacetime. It restricts the passage of naval ships not belonging to Black Sea states. The terms of the convention have been the source of controversy over the years, most notably concerning the Soviet Union's military access to the Mediterranean Sea. Also, there is no love between the Turks and Russia.

Do you want to die? Nuclear war with Russia is mutually assured destruction and trust me we have plenty of options for a "first strike" but we should never use it. Russia has a nuclear sub off the coast of Syria right now launching strikes deep into the country and sub like that could survive any first strike. Nuclear war = we will die. Turkey should not be apart of NATO because they are not really our ally anymore and are supporters of ISIS so we definitely shouldn't be obligated to defend them, NATO shouldn't even exist as it is outdated and pointless as the Soviets aren't going to roll into western Europe any time soon. It's all about maintaining American hegemony worldwide. Other NATO countries besides those in western Europe should know that Americans will never fight and die for them, it's a joke and they're fooling themselves. If Russia wants Estonia or Georgia then really they can have them as I won't start nuclear war over it, I don't want to see any American lives and treasure lost because of some little place. Erdogan likes to act like a swinging dick but runs and hides behind Article 4 and the United States every time, Russia would be a better ally than Turkey and we share much more culturally and strategic interest going forward and we'd be way safer as a result of it.

We're going to have to make a decision between the Turks and Kurds, I'm picking the Kurds. Turkey is going to get pieced apart, they will rue the day they shot down that Russian jet.

Agreed.
It mystifies me why the Kurds continue to put up with us, or put their trust in us, though, considering all the promises we've made them, then jerked them around. I suppose it's because there's no one else to turn to.

Hey, I'm serious. I'd never vote for him in the general election, but I SO want him to be GOP candidate.

I'm probably gonna be forced to vote for Clinon in the general. Reframing it as voting against Trump will make that easier.

Pat Condell weighs in on Trump:

I personally quite like Trump. I've even got an official Donald Trump T-shirt, and I'm British.

Can't stump the Trump!

IMO, when the caucuses come closer, people will likely realize that Trump doesn't really give a care about the needs of American people, but only about forcing his own agenda onto everyone.

I do not worry about dying in a nuclear war. I will just move into my bomb shelter. NATO has had the right to use tactical nuclear weapons against an aggressive nation like Russia for 70 years. It has kept the peace. They understand that any aggressive act against NATO, Russia will be glowing in the dark for many years. Russia under Putin has been upgrading his nuclear weapons in the last 10 years. He has ordering his air force to probe NATO airspace many, many times. We saw an example of that when the Turkish air force shot down their plane. There is no way that nations like Britain and Turkey will never give up their ace in the hole.

If a NATO nation calls for an Article V, all NATO nation must come to the aid of that country.

If there's a Trump presidency, I'm moving to San Lucia!

I just don't get the guy's appeal. He makes idiot statements. He'll get us nuked, if we're not careful.

There must be some sort of decent Republican around.

Only problem is, the USA and our NATO allies will all be glowing, too, if we get into a nuclear war. And are you sure you want to survive in a bomb shelter? Think about the desolation and death awaiting you when you finally emerge. Think of the burned, walking skeletons dying of radiation poisoning, some of whom you might recognize as friends and family. And then, there's the trouble with finding edible food. I'd rather just prevent a nuclear war, and avoid all those horrors.
