Oh okay but why do people have to say they are democrats or republicans. I mean you can still vote and be of neither idealogy, or not have the same views as either party, can't you? Why label yourself?

Well why does everything seem to be right or left on this issue. Can't people adapt more than two ideologies, and have their own thoughts? I just never understood why so many Americans choose only two ideologies. It's like telling a society of people, you can either like Japanese food or you can like Mexican food, but you're not allowed to choose anything else... Why not choose what you like, rather than flocking to only two sides?

our system is not a la carte, we must choose one party or the other.

You could have voted for that singer guy, right?

who is the "singer guy"?

for me it is because i share no values with the GOP as it is presently constructed. i share a LOT of values with the democratic party as it is now.

Neither the Democratic Party nor the Republican Party has a single coherent "ideology." Both are coalitions.

The only reasons to "label yourself" are to (1) be eligible to vote in your preferred party's primary elections, (2) be eligible to attend your preferred party's local club, and/or (3) be able to run for office with the backing of a party.

No need to "label yourself" just to vote in a general election.

Kanye is technically a rapper rather than a singer but then I guess that's off topic anyway.

On his albums he raps and sings. He rants, yells and bellows in his public appearances.

But there seems to be this big war going on in the US between "democrats" and "republicans" with riots and violence and what not. If you chose to get into physical altercations over it, aren't those people labeling themselves, since they are choosing to pick a side?

Yes they are. Moreover people will say "we" when talking about a political party. As in "we democrats/republicans". Why do they do that? Idk. I guess they just want to be a part of something. A member of an organisation. To adhere to a prescribed set of beliefs and participate accordingly.

But I think this is the problem which is what is leading to these violence and riots is that people seem to be too impressionable. I think if there should be any political movement that is being lead in protest, it should be a protesting against people being too impressionable, instead of developing your own beliefs.

but my own believes dovetail with those of my party. i believe in universal suffrage and universal healthcare, as do my party and totally unlike the other party of greedy oligarchic patricians.
