We should find better things to do with our time than being offended all the time.

This is a strawman. None of the activists I am talking about are offended all the time. Jeez. Talk about total invalidation of another person's experiences, a way to dismiss them to shut down both the conversation and thinking. A great way to keep hurting another person, while escaping with plausible deniability.

This stuff is like borderline gaslighting.

His comment was none of those things. It was an exaggerated generalization. It's the same way somebody might say " I never sleep anymore" or "you never let anybody get a word in edgewise"

Its not meant to be taken literally.

Considering you just used a lot of the same accusations and claim the same outcomes and use the same phrases at him that you do in other posts trying to explain why this or that is so horrible, you proved my point. You just argued the same thing about a statement not meant to be taken literally. It's over the top knee jerk rhetoric. So I'm going to assume from now on that you're just doing this same thing over and over.

Perfect example of many things myself and others have said.

Again, thank you so very much.

I give you a standing jazz hands ovation. I invite everyone who has argued the same point as me to join me in thanking you for this. But only with jazz hands. I promise.

Beneficii thought I was responding to something in the thread. I wasn't. I was making a general statement. About how feeling offense all the time takes the enjoyment out of life.

We had a misunderstanding. I hope Benificii is still my friend.

AB you are one of my favourite members, not least because of your consistent courtesy and I have never known you to insult nor denigrate anyone.

thank you :) I was remarking that I tend not to notice insults that often when they're directed towards me, but I seem much better at noticing them when directed to others that I care about.

if I had joined in 2005 like I originally thought about doing [rather than wait 5 years] I'd be right up there [in the near 6-figure club] along with tex and cockney.

3 hours southwest of the emerald city as the cars drive. Portland is half a day's driving south of me.

Oh, I'm well aware of that, but the Lebowski reference requires addressing her as dude.

How is it hyperbole, let alone extreme, when it's literally an argument made in this very thread? Have you not read the whole thing?

First, people claim strawman on s**t that's basically just descriptive metaphor all the time. The word itself has lost meaning due to overuse in the wrong situation, especially on these forums. My degree is in rhetoric, I would know, my field of expertise created the damn term.

Second, since you're so good at using search give me the argument you're complaining about because I'm not looking it up-- that was sooo yesterday.
