No thanks. It seems like only religious people think atheists should have ceremony. I think ceremony and religion are a massive waste of time. The closest thing to ceremony I have is waking up and doing my workout

What if I told you that I could sweeten the deal for you by arranging a one-on-one with Rick Santorum?

I'm fairly certain Santorum wouldn't pass up any opportunity for a "one-on-one" with another man, but that man will not be Vigilans

Heh.. I thought religious people believed that atheists should immediately repent for their sins and walk in the light of Christ? Having ceremony would do nothing by their standard without 'saving grace'.

I always wondered about the light of Christ. Does he have a giant spotlight that he shines from the heavens on his chosen? Or is it more like a Batman kind of thing where people shine a spotlight with WWJD onto the clouds and he hopefully shows up and does what Jesus does?

I couldn't help you. The more I learned about it the more vacuous it all became. Apparently the logical are only welcome if they can teach themselves to be illogical.

Probably something to the effect of get riches, bang b*****s, and pop snitches. Sex, racketeering money, and murder - in that order of priority.

The atheist position on god should plainly stating the truth of all religions and asking them to openly debate things without using representational arguments that limit the accuracy of the argument and pollute the world with publications that can do harm to others or influence their decisions and investments in ways that shouldn't, but may very well have been intended.

Unfortunately, the web is just too "disconnected" a place to really have the type of debate and dialog as you describe, I'd like some discussion with rational people who can consider another viewpoint without abandoning their own. Including existential topics.

I'm not sure I understand what you just said, can you rephrase?

Or like this guy did in Chronicles of Riddick but I can't find a good picture of?

And as to my post, do try to understand a wee bit of sarcasm...

Yes, I'm talking about Frankenstein.

Just a silly joke. Though even harder to explain... If my thoughts on the matter are correct, FS is an allegory to the effects of stoning someone with religion and creating the living dead or zombies. I also mean that at the point where someone is franken-stoned, they are probably also screwed.

I quit reading this thread at about page 9. Many of the posts seemed to show a confusion about terminology. In case no one else posted this, I will tell those who do not know what the difference is between an atheist and an agnostic. I was confused about this at one point.

Theism is the belief in a god (or gods.) Atheism is the lack of belief in any gods.

Gnostics claim to know that a god (or gods) exist. Agnostics do not claim to know that a god (or gods) exist. Some agnostics would claim that it is impossible to ever know such a thing.

Most atheists (even Richard Dawkins) are agnostic atheists. They have a lack of belief in any gods, but if enough evidence were presented that a god existed, they would become theists. They would then believe in a god's existence. Depending on the evidence, they could continue to be agnostic about the certainty of any god's existence.

Once I learned the difference between atheism and agnosticism, I realized that I have been an agnostic atheist for quite some time.

Meh, a typical bunch of motley liberals, descending upon the liberal city of Washington, which is so liberal that it isn't even a part of the United States.

Ya know, using political ideology ("liberal") as insult hardly works when those you apply it to consider it compliment.

Maybe it was intended as a compliment.

Mixing it with "motley" was an interesting choice, then.

A bunch of Conservatives would be much less motley, much more homogeneous.
