Agnostic?

I don't believe there MIGHT be a God, I think it/he/she DOES exist...so technically I'm not fully Agnostic, no?

My usual response if someone asks me if I believe in God(s) is:

"which God?"

I'm the High Priest of the Cult of the Followers of Squiggy.

Oh, you mean what I really believe and not something I just made up.

In that case I'm agnostic :P

I think for most people, religion has gotten less defined and watered down by necessity.
Someone else had also stated that ethics and religion not separating was a problem.
I can see that ethics are valuable in and of themselves but effective motivations for integrity, (the most difficult virtue, to do the right thing when no one is looking) involve beliefs that someone big is watching, that one's family is watching, that after death, there is no escape. That is what religion does for ethics. There can be other motivations as well. Monotheism perhaps was the most original "simplification"/"universalization" effort in a sense but after that, it got to the point of simplifying it out of effectiveness. Organized religion is not so evil. Pick one, stick with it. If we are all paranoid about someone's authority, there are several churches that resolve that issue handily and are time tested, ie: Catholicism for example. To me, one of the most agnostic and easiest religions to follow is Taoism. The "one technique" which cannot be defined...(just like an undefinable Deity). Being undefined is a protection of sorts psychologically. I kind of like the movie "Bruce Almighty". God becomes a personal and unexpected challenge. Anyhow, I'm not a Catholic but don't think there is some reason for their existence for so long in our culture, just perhaps as Bhuddism and Taoism and Confucianism did. The oldest religions seem richer. I think most people are agnostic but that it's possible for some to know a lot more than others about those issues. I'm interested in all kinds of paranormal occurances. All these things are exercises in detecting hoax.

I wrote another post about the Followers of Squiggy below.
It's basically one big joke.

However unlike many religions systems, it's supposed to be one. (I won't name any specific ones, as I don't want to offend anyone. At least not right now)

That's funny that you should say that hell doesn't make sense because I don't think that baptism or evolution make any sense but hell does make sense to me. Have you ever considered the wickedness; murder, molestation, crime? Do you not think that the eternal punishment of the wicked makes sense? How about the temporary punishment of the wicked: ie. prison, jail or death penalty?

I don't think hell make sense because if you believe that salvation through Jesus is the only way, what happens to people who could not have possibly heard of Jesus, or accepted him. Also, consider this: suppose a man lives a holy life, one that rivals that of the most pious, but never becomes a christian? Also, you shouldn't have added crime to the end of that. If a man steals bread to feed his starving wife and young child, is it still wrong?
Anywho,
I think this belief has actually shifted a bit. I more believe in a second chance after death now.

As I've posted elsewhere, salvation through Christ to escape punishment in hell is nothing more than "good cop" "bad cop' psycology. The "bad cop" (god) accuses you of "original sin" which of course you're automatically guilty of. So you make a plea bargian with the "good cop" (Jesus) in order to avoid eternal damnnation. Real cops use the same technique to bully false confessions out of the innocent. I've seen some doccumentaries on this. Only DNA and other forensic evidence sets these people free. People who are bullied into becoming christians, aren't so lucky. It takes years of cult de-programming to convince them they aren't going to hell.

Even though it looks like no one posted here for a while, I will say I'm an agnostic suffering from occasional bouts of uncontrolled catholicism which I hope to recover from some day. Actually I have no problem with any religion as long as someone doesn't push their own beliefs in my face. My background is catholic/jewish. I'm at heart a tree worshipper of sorts. I probably spent the first 5 years of my life staring at them in awe of their life force as they danced in the wind. I still love to commune with them. Does that make me a pagan?

Roman Catholic.. sort of. I was raised Catholic and i still attend masses, but i have my own way of looking at the bible and other religious teachings.
Bible is a guide, I don’t think things happened 100% as written all the time. But something that makes me different from many of the Catholics I know is that I don’t think god hates, I don’t think he would condone any war in his name(or at all), and I don’t think too many people go to hell.

other things too but i don't feel like typing on religion anymore right now.
