I'm not sure there are any left posters here who wouldn't condemn Marxist-Leninist regimes for being authoritarian. That's the root of my dismissive attitude.

Right next door in Canada we enjoy the benefits of socialist democracy.. but cross the border and "socialism," is a bad word because having things like universal healthcare at a fraction of the cost is somehow turrrrrible.

And so, as with all democracies.. Americans deserve the government & it's policies that they vote for.*

*Yes, I know that even the most progressive American politicians are constrained by systemic corruption and that lobbyist's money is a greater determiner of new legislation than the will of the people.

I got this for ya. Canadians deserve to be forcibly annexed by the US military so we can steal your country's natutal resources for ourselves. I'm starting to become pro-American Imperialism thanks to Canadians like you. I hope this actually happens someday.

Apples to oranges comparison seeing as that scenario has nothing to do with Canadians voting for a crap government for ourselves. Canadians HAVE voted for a crap government and we're in the s**t for it, but that scenario has nothing to do with that.

*shrug* It happens. I think Canadians would pick up arms and fire on invaders like Ukrainians defending their sovereign nation from Putin. And then maybe just for extra funsies we'd arrange another trip to DC to torch the White House again.

USA doesn't have to invade Canada. It just forces sh***y trade deals on us.. like all the free water we supply the USA with, cut prices we take for lumber and electricity etc. USA has money and power and flexes their might all the time to get what they want from Canada without having to fight for it.

If you want the red dress uniform you're gonna have to crash some kinda ceremony or funeral or something. Otherwise they wear typical dark blue cop uniforms with a yellow stripe down the leg of their pants. But if that's okay with you you can just go on a crime spree in any RCMP policed area and get 'em to manhandle you.

When I was their age I was idealizing communism as well. Of course it was not very popular back then, at all so it didn't gain me more likeminded friends or anything.

That said now I am more of a democratic socialist because pure communism is unlikely to work...but it could be useful to have more socialist systems...I just don't think it needs to then transition to communism. In theory communism does sound rather appealing, however there is a such thing as something being unrealistic and that is the case with communism. Socialism is much more realistic. Like think of star trek, seems they have a rather socialist government on earth but if it was communism might be everyone had to be in starfleet whether they like it or not rather than people still choosing their path in life. Basically, communism seems too prone to authoritarianism even if it starts with good intentions.

I think it is just young people being frustrated about the capitalist system, and being young they don't understand all the nuances of things. I suspect many of them will come to lean more towards democratic socialism as they learn more. So, I don't think I am that concerned, if anything I am kind of glad younger people nowadays are criticizing capitalism since when I was a kid caring about that kind of stuff kind of set me apart. I certainly don't think they will try to start a violent communist revolution but by being more politically active they can push for more socialism.
