I'm sick of young Americans obsessing over communism!

I get that Capitalism is failing us and that many people here in the US were disgusted by the rise Trumpism. Believe me I get it! But why do we now have so many gullible young people in this country wishing for communism? I especially can't stand listening to people like my own sister whitewash the horribly cruel things that Communist leaders have done to stay in power like when we brought up Fidel Castro taking over Cuba and she said "Well yeah people had to die but..." and then she went on about how supposedly "every" cuban who fled Castro was a slave owner. I even tried explaining to her that I never would have survived in Cuba under Fidel's rule because he was known to lock homosexuals up in concentration camps and she of course dismissed my concerns! My same sister who claims to support LGBTQ rights because of me!

I swear sometimes I feel like I'm living in pre AND post-war Germany when the fascists and communists were force feeding every German citizen propaganda in their struggle for power which did nothing but tear the country in half!

A) Slavery was abolished in Cuba in 1886 by royal Spanish decree (Cuba was still a colony of Spain) so there were no outright legal 'slave owners' in Cuba by the time of the Cold War and Castro in the 1950s. Though its true that many who fled were plantation owners or capitalist or urban elites who cooperated with American Mob. Many, though not all, were arguably "oppressors".

B)The Castro regime was notorious for imprisoning gays (though they didnt murder them en masse like the Nazis did). So you probably would have "survived", but its true that you would not have thrived under Castro as an openly gay person. Not that the rest of Latin America, nor even the US, was very tolerant of gays prior to 1970 either.

C) You seem to be confused as to why post war Germany split east-west. Germany did not become divided between east and west because the German people got polarized by their own political parties. Germany got divided because Germany lost the war and was occupied by foreign armies who FORCED the division upon them, top-down. The Soviet zone of Germany became Communist East Germany, and the American, British, and French, zones combined to become the non Communist West Germany. The defeated German people had no say in it.
