‘Good luck and good soldiering’: More than 200 Ukrainian troops graduate from program with help from ADF troops

Upwards of 200 Ukrainian recruits, largely comprised of civilians with no military experience, have graduated from an intensive course with assistance from the ADF.

Almost 200 Ukrainian recruits have graduated from a United Kingdom-led program following the first anniversary of Russia’s illegal invasion.

Earlier this year the Federal Government announced it would participate in the program with other nations by sending 70 troops to the UK to help train 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers.

The five-week course taught Ukrainian citizens basic tactics to survive on the battlefield including weaponry skills, operating drones as well as defending against them.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to visit China
February 25, 2023 - 7:34PM

China’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed in a statement that the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has announced he will visit China from February 28 until March 2.

The leader of Belarus has met with President Putin of Russia and told him that his country is ready to build attack planes for use in the conflict in Ukraine.

Yeah, reports on his disappearance turned out unconfirmed.
What happens with Belarus is very interesting and politics of Lukashenko is far from trivial.

My suspicion is, he goes to China to lever his position against Russia within the Non-Democratic Bloc. That wouldn't be bad, in my opinion - the worst case scenario about Belarus I can see would be annexation to Russia. Undoing this might require another war.
However, bilateral ties with China might help prevent this - and that's good. Formally independent Belarus can democratize Polish-style with some "round table" in the future. Formally annexed Belarus would probably need a war for independence - much worse.
It can also be a backup for Lukashenko's regime in case Russia loses and becomes too weak to keep supporting him.

Lukashenko is a ruthless dictator but he's not dumb.

After several tours as an Army Ranger in Iraq and Afghanistan, and as a Green Beret in Europe, David Bramlette thought his fighting days were over. But last March, he went to Ukraine and fought against the Russians for almost 11 months, leading a multi-national team of volunteers. Bramlette joined William Brangham and gave his perspective on the war and what Ukraine needs to counter Russia.

A $500 million dollar Russian plane, the Beriev A-50 Mainstay, was damaged beyond repair while parked on an airstrip in Belarus by partisans using drones. Russian propagandists on state TV have come up with some creative explanations why Putin's special military operation is now in its second year. Putin claims that the West now wants to break up Russia into smaller states.

Russia is about to go over 150,000 lost soldiers for their special military operation in Ukraine. This is more Russian lives lost in one year of fighting than all of Russia's other wars combined since World War II. Putin is also protecting the ethnic Russians of Moscow and pushing their empires minorities to the front lines.

Drones Attack Russia From All Sides

Quote:
Chaos erupted in Russia overnight as drones swarmed multiple regions, sparking an explosion at an oil depot and the deployment of fighter jets near St. Petersburg, according to local reports.

One strike at around 2 a.m. in the Krasnodar region was less than 100 feet from a Russian Defense Ministry barracks, the independent Agentstvo News reports. Two drones filled with explosives landed at a nearby Rosneft oil depot in Tuapse, sparking a blaze that was “quickly extinguished,” according to the Russian outlet Baza.

Hours later, St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport came to a standstill as authorities shut down the surrounding airspace, reportedly in response to an “unidentified flying object” spotted in the area.

Local authorities confirmed to RIA Novosti that incoming and outgoing flights were temporarily halted, though they gave no reason for the move. Meanwhile, Baza reported, fighter jets were deployed to take down the “object.”

A short while later, however, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed the whole thing had simply been a training exercise, and the airspace was reopened.

Drones were also reported overnight in the Bryansk and Belgorod regions, as well as the Republic of Adygea. Another drone landed in the Moscow region, near a Gazprom gas compressor station on Tuesday. Local reports noted that the drone could have made it to the Kremlin in less than an hour if it had not crashed.

“The FSB and other competent authorities are dealing with the situation, there is no threat to the safety of residents,” Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said in a statement.

The strikes were part of what local media described as a “mass drone attack” that appears to have intensified in the last 24 hours.

On Monday morning, residents of an apartment building in the Belgorod region, near the border with Ukraine, were forced to evacuate in the middle of the night after one of four drones crashed into the building, according to Baza. Another drone landed on the roof of a supermarket and exploded, scorching the premises.

While no injuries were reported, pro-war Russian military bloggers fumed at the string of drone strikes.

Russia's 'total collapse is surprisingly close' as Ukraine told Crimea retake now possible

Quote:
Russia's "total collapse" is not beyond realms of possibility, a military expert has claimed, as Ukraine continues to fight valiantly in the east of the country. Colonel Richard Kemp, a former infantry commander, has explained how taking back the Crimean Peninsula could be key to inflicting defeat on the Russians.

Russian President Vladimir Putin illegally annexed Crimea in 2014, and has since tried to claim the territory as Russian.

But, writing in the Telegraph, Mr Kemp explained how Ukraine could take the territory back.

He cited the expertise of the former commander of US forces in Europe, Ben Hodges, who suggested Ukrainian troops could isolate the peninsula by striking against the two land routes connecting it with Russia.

A large-scale offensive accompanied by precision strikes and bombardment targeting Russian air, ground and naval forces could help drive Putin's men out of Crimea, General Hodges explained.

Mr Kemp then added: "This concerted attack against the peninsula – isolating it, neutralising and inflicting severe damage against its military infrastructure by long-range strikes – would be a major blow for Russian morale.

"In the absence of decisive battlefield success elsewhere, it would represent a defeat for Moscow that it could not disguise, and could lead to collapse of Russian forces in the field and even to Putin’s downfall."

However, Mr Kemp warned that this coup for Ukrainian forces could only be achieved if Western allies bolster their support for Kyiv.

Mr Kemp said countries like the US, UK, and European nations would need to up their military production, but the political will to do this is "shaky".

He said some leaders are now trying to push Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky towards peace talks with Moscow, which could see Ukraine give up some of its territories.
