Being doxxed and harassed is not as bad as being imprisoned.
That all said we are in unhealthy situation. When one is afraid to say what one thinks one is actually more likely to say something actually bad and offensive and pay for it. Then one becomes more and more defensive increasing the likelihood of messing up. It is a catch 22 type situation. If they intimidate you into silence you they won, if they get you to “slip” you get branded a racist, they won. This is why cancel culture has been so effective. All of this does out real bigots, but innocent people get caught up. As people on the spectrum we already had problems with offending people. This has made it worse.
The sad and ironic part of this is the this is undoing a decades of work by the left that tore down stifling censorship of left of center views and sexuality.
