Bad, BAD, BAD idea. Have you seen the political discussions on here? The country would immediately split into two camps of libertarians and socialists. Just because Aspies have common problems doesn't mean we could actually agree on anything.

Not all Libertarians are completely opposed to socialism. :-\

It would probably make Libya look warm and inviting.

I doubt it would work too well, but it certainly couldn't be worse than the current United States.

In a nice way of course.

Is anybody doing anything constructive with Siberia now?

Its not populated very densely, but there are almost 40 million people living there. They pretty much occupied all the best real estate for cities and agriculture. Sorry!

hehe, I've actually been thinking of this a little more, and tomorrow for the sake of time-wasting will post a manifesto for a fictional political party, which will maybe show how Aspergia could be run.

How would we go about estimating the cost?

Well, my idea would be for us to privately buy land and houses in an area, then get ourselves elected to the parish council and have the parish council issue a Unilateral Declaration of Independence. Then we could raise money for other things through taxes and such.

Admittedly, not a realistic proposition for me as I don't have enough money to buy a house. Maybe we could rent.

I was going to skip this part as I'd assume we'd have around a couple billion to give us a head start...

But back up plans are good....

What would we need (just out of curiosity )

Education
-School
-College

Health Service (One hospital + Two doctors surgeries)
-Volunteering professionals (Housing and shopping vouchers given-extra hours paid by cash)

Public Transport
-Not many busses would be needed to begin with.
-Car hire

Roads

Housing

Military

Fire Station(s)

Dock or Runway?

What else would be essential?

What jobs would there be?

...just wondering

i dont think it would work practically
but if it did why not just build the country??
a true floating island type city is becoming a reality so why not take advantage.

I am curious to know whether it is possible and how it would be done. Whether we could take the best of the Western and Eastern world.

...I still want Bransons Island, but I suppose we could build next to it and fire potatoes from canons until he decided to leave...
:P

I'll support a separate aspie country but only if it's located in a secret base on the moon.

Hmm... The floating island idea would probably be lousy for agriculture, and a lot of other threads have mentioned an agrarian economy. I say go for somewhere with relatively separate infrastructure to the mainland to allow for easy transition, fertile land and in a stable part of the globe. An existing political institution to subvert would be a plus, hence my Fair Isle idea (I'm assuming it has a parish council and if it doesn't we could always hold a referendum to form one).
