wah wah wapatow
Projection is a way to a have a theory of mind.
You are thinking why would I not like the tea party?
the answer that comes to you the same reason you make most of your choices.
Fear
You do not like things that scare you.
Turns out projection only works for people who are like you.
It fails when it comes to me.
I do not live in fear.
I do not need to project strength through gun waving and scary birds.
not because I am better than you but because I have different motivations.

You south-eastern evangelical protestant from a working class to poor family with some military tradition
mostly enlisted. The military was a way out for you. Fear was instilled into you.
Fear of God, Fear of authority, Fear of your sexuality.

Me Secular Jew from the West both parents with advanced degrees.
I was taught from an early age to challenge authority and not to be guided by fear.
(it helped that I have a flattened emotional aspect and don't really feel much fear)

When I was an under-graduate I was offered a full ride from the D.O.D. in exchange taking a job at the pentagon.
I rejected it.
The same thing happened when I was in my doctoral program.
(the kind of mathematics I do is interesting to defense but only because they do not understand them)
I rejected it.
I habitually excuse myself from research that receives DARPA grants (military money)
because I feel the U.S. Military is a bloated Keynesian boondoggle I don't want to sully myself
by participating in it.

So I guess you have me pegged I am just Jealous of people on the camo-dole.
People receiving tax-payer money for pointless "service" that actually weakens the U.S. National Interest.
You should go into criminal profiling.

Have you seen anything of what passes for mathematics at the DOD? They have no idea what they are doing, but proceed anyway.

Nope, no fear here.
Your ranting, though, is indicative of something other than bravery or even contentment.

I do happen to live in the south and consider myself a transplanted southerner. While I do love certain things about the south that you may not be capable of understanding or appreciating, it is not my birthplace or that of my parents.
I come from a long line of German brutes and Irish drunkards from the northeast and midwest.
But what the hell, if it makes you feel better to envision me as the barefoot son of a poor white Alabama sharecropper with an eighth grade education then so be it.

That’s actually good! I’m honestly relieved to see that Jewish parents are teaching their young not to be servile enough to get on the freight train to der Ostland when ordered.
No sarcasm intended.

I've known a lot of very bright people, both civilian and when I was in the military, wasting their education and intelligence on government jobs because, quite frankly, a lot of those jobs do not offer enough of a challenge for them.
It’s their chosen path, though, and I would never fault them for wanting to serve.

The US military is bloated as well as the military of any other superpower.
But by the same token ALL government agencies are bloated just the same, there’s really no way around that in such a big country.

If you have an issue with the US military budgeting or its operations in Iraq or Afghanistan then get your facts together and pester the president or congress about it.
Slamming servicemen is in the poorest of taste even if it is a right and I don’t think very many people on this forum will disagree with me.

Onec again your idea of nationl interest is vastly different than mine.

I ignored most of your spiel because it is mostly conservative boilerplate
but our military is not Just the most bloated but insanely bloated.
Image
48% of the money spent on the military is spent by us. You my sweet baby
and all your comrades in welfare queendom are part of that pork.

Why should I "honor" morons that are tricked into killing folks?
I don't "honor" gang members either.

I did not get the southern part but was dead on, on the rest. so I am gunna give myself a B+
more right than wrong.

No, you read it all just like you’re reading this.
The problem is that it refutes your assertions about me.

The pie chart; well it’s a pie chart and I see them all the time and have a few of my own for my work stuff. You can massage the numbers and make a chart say whatever you’d like it to say and put a twist on the supporting data to make it look accurate.
Maybe yours is right and maybe it’s wrong.

I’m about done with you.
I’ve finally come to the conclusion that others have that it’s impossible to have any kind of adult dialogue with you.
Regrettably I didn’t come to this conclusion earlier.

That's not true. The military is absolutely bloated. Some agencies are bloated. Many are just squeaking by on shoestring budgets. Especially since President Bush, government contractors are raking in the dough.

ug chart no agrees with hulk must be lie.
Look it up its all public data nothing is massaged.
Show me your chart that shows we do not have a abhorrently large military.
But you won't because you are not a person of facts or reasoning.
if you want a hint on how to lie with the statistics I suggest you divide the amount of money spent by the GDP
it would be totally dishonest but that never stops any one with a flag, a eagle and a gun.
because you have a military background I assume you are not great on math. so I worked it out for you.
it places us at about 4.7 % of gdp according to that nearly worthless agency called the CIA.
It makes us the 10th most militarized country on earth not bad eh?
but what is our company like?
1 Eritrea 469,000,000d 20.9%d
2 Saudi Arabia 39,200,000,000 11.2%
3 Oman 4,047,000,000 9.7%
4 United Arab Emirates 15,749,000,000 7.3%
5 Israel 16,000,000,000 6.3%
6 Chad 242,000,000 6.2%
7 Jordan 1,400,000,000 6.1%
8 Georgia 496,935,000 5.6%
9 Iraq 4,663,000,000 5.4%

not exactly western industrialized nations.

We are in the company of basket cases and dictatorships.
