If he was catholic it would be a preist but since he is not its God and if atheism isnt a belieif why do they so strongly follow it and it not be considered a belief?

Because people keep trying to run the world with little story books from the middle east.

If theists would just keep it to their selves and inside their homes and churches, Atheists would simply sit back and go "This is wonderful! Reason has finally triumphed over superstition!" and you wouldn't hear a peep from us again.

advocating the superiority of your own belief system

Heaven forbid! Can you imagine the madness that would ensue if people thought that they were right and that other people were wrong? I mean, they might have public arguments and try to convince the other people of their point of view! Over time, only the most easily defensible viewpoints would become common!

You do lack belief though.

The notion went through my brain and based on my experience, my brain spit out an answer, "I do not believe that you are God" My brain can't claim to know that, but based on what I've already experienced, I can say I don't believe you, and that is my belief.

Quote:
The idea is "I am your god."

Your response was "I don't believe you're god."

"...don't believe..."

"...DON'T BELIEVE..."

It's presumptuous to think that it means I have a lack of belief, because while I don't believe you, I that is still my belief. And I don't even think lack of belief is a choice.

Quote:
See? You even said it right there. You lack belief in the idea that I am your god.

You're presuming that I lack a belief when I don't.

If people hold that atheism means a lack of belief, then those people aren't atheist.

...*sigh*

Sometimes I wonder why I do this to myself.

snapcap:
You don't believe I am your god. Is that correct? That means, by definition, that you lack belief in the idea that I am your god. If you had belief in that idea, you would believe that I was your god.

Joker:
I am different from the religious communities in some ways, but method is not one of them. Why? Because it works. 90% of people are sheep and will believe whatever they're told. How do you think your silly little book got so popular?

It means I don't believe that you are God, and that I believe that you are not. I can't prove it, so I can only believe it. Just because I don't believe you are God doens't necessitate that I believe you are God.

*sigh* :)

We're arguing semantics at this point. I think you get my point quite well.

You really think its about doing what your told ha thats funny its a way of life how we choose to live our beliefs and lifestyle go hand and hang with each other btw how do you think your silly beliefs got so popular? Because people that didnt believe in God some how thought they where better then those that did and set out to rid the world of religion its a perfect example of Issac Newtons third law of motion ever action has a postive or negitive reaction.

Those that believe in god and those who dont the world works this way we cant all believe the same thing it would be illogical.

I understand what you are saying, I just don't think it addresses reality.

Way of life eh? Why don't we see how much of this way of life you follow. Please answer the following questions with a yes or a no:

1.Do you stone people in the street for not believing in your god?

2.Do you stone people in the street for being gay?

3.Do you keep slaves?

4.Do you eat pork?

5.Do you or have you ever done any work on a Saturday?

6.Do you have any pictures in your house? Or small statues/figurines?

...you believe that there is an invisible guy in the sky who just so happens to have died and come back, was born of a virgin, had magical powers, and loves us if we bow and scarpe and praise him constantly and if we don't we get to go to hell and endure constant agony for all of eternity and you think I'M not addressing reality?!?

Are you stoned or something?

And what's the deal with people claiming that "Science proves there is no God"? I mean, I don't remember reading about this field. Maybe I could find a book about it in the same section where they have a book mentioning where the Iraqi WMDs are hiding.

Atheist will never triumph in reason over the religious of any kind plus I hardly dought they would stay quite if the religious did in fact do that  they are more outspoken then the religious will ever be

Science hasn't definitively shown whether god exists or not.

However, it *does* provide arguments against god. Case in point: the age of the earth.
