That's likely what they'll do (why not?) and once they have a foot in the door it will be hard to stop them.

An attack just on Fox alone? You must be letting ArrantPariah get to you. :shameonyou:
In all fairness at least slam CNN and especially MSNBC while you're at it.

Touche. Good point. I should have been more catholic with my bile.

A lot of the cable companies may decide not to include Al Jazeera. I don't know if Comcast (my provider) offered the Al Gore channel or not. There are far too many channels to keep up with. Without the discussions here, I would have had no idea just how nutty Fox News is--to me, it would have been just another cable news channel that I never watched. Now, I've learned to loathe it.

But if they offer Al Jazeera, then I'll have to watch it all day, just so that I can show up here every day and try to show off my anti-intellectual superiority by virtue of being an Al Jazeera cult member, and get a few good scraps going over some nonsense that I watched on TV. :P

I guess it's good there's another network on air, but I'm suspicious of Qatari government ownership. Not that I fear they will be a Qatari government mouthpiece, but no private media has pockets as deep as the Qatari government's. The same goes for the BBC in this country.

In the UK, private media moguls don't need especially deep pockets. All they need is enough to be able to sponsor peers in the house of lords.

Enough of the slapstick already.

Im obviously the only participant in this thread who has actually ever WATCHED Al Jazeera- so Im the one eyed man in this land of the blind- which makes me the king here.

As your king I thank you subjects (every other poster on this thread) for entertaining me.

Its fun to watch a bunch of ignorant, hysterical, idiots, exachanging their ignorance, their hysteria, and their idiocy. But enough already.

1) There is such a thing as the Megahertz (Mhz) network available on most american cable packages which places several international news outlets side-by-side together in the same region of your cable dial. Its is there thay you find: Nippon News,Russia Today, the Beeb, Al Jazeera English, and the like.

You all have already been getting Al Jazeera for years, and dont even know it.

And GUESS WHAT!
Al Jazeera has yet to cause the sky to fall!
American democracy has already survived the onslaught of Al Jazeera English for years. I think the republic will survive more years of it.

2) Not only have I actually watched Al Jazeera- I have watched it for years. Its just another imitator of the BBC. Just one more staid news outlet with the same kinds of conscious and unconscious biases that American news has ( different-but similar in kind biases). In fact it is rather unslick, unhyper, and unsensationalistic and rather laid back compared to american news in its cinema verte style.

Ive never seen anything anti-semetic on it.
Never seen ANYthing lurid on it at all.

Its just one more flavor on the Mhz international news buffet, and it has a number of interesting programs.

3) If there is another person here (besides me) who has actually WATCHED Al Jazeera -and who wants to join the conversaton please do so now!

Otherwise -we should put this inane thread out of its misery!

Oh, and for reference:

Oh, and please elaborate on why I am an ignorant, hysterical idiot (since that is what you just accused everyone else on this thread of being).

Ahem. Before you go too far on accusing Qatar of unAmericanism

Wikipedia wrote:
...Qatar has built intimate military ties with the United States, and is now the location of U.S. Central Command’s Forward Headquarters and the Combined Air Operations Center.

...Qatar was the United States’ fifth-largest export market in the Middle East, trailing behind the U.A.E., Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

...Qatar has attracted an estimated $100 billion in investment, with approximately $60 to $70 billion coming from the United States in the energy sector.

...In 1991, Qatar played a significant role in the Persian Gulf War, particularly during the Battle of Khafji in which Qatari tanks rolled through the streets of the town providing fire support for Saudi Arabian National Guard units which were fighting against units of the Iraqi Army. Qatar also allowed Coalition troops from Canada to use the country as an airbase to launch aircraft on CAP duty.

...Qatar is increasingly active on the regional stage. It served as the US Central Command headquarters and one of the main launching sites of the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. In 2011, Qatar joined NATO operations in Libya and reportedly armed Libyan opposition groups.

On top of that, Qatar still has the death penalty. Ain't nothing more American than the death penalty.

Remind me, which corporation in the UK dominates the news media? And who pays for it?

(Hint: it's not a private media company.)

Yes, I'll give you a heavily-sarcastic comment:

What lovely, lovely people. I'd have all of them (including little, harmless Samir) round for tea any time. Such fans of human life, they are.

I would have thought Press TV would be a better vehicle for that.

As Qatar's leadership were longtime British puppets who have never completely shed that legacy it's no surprise that al-Jazeera are BBC imitators. Qatar is also firmly in the Western camp and does Western geopolitical bidding.

Another article for you, an opinion piece from Al-Hamas... sorry, Al-Jazeera:

Look at those evil Jews wanting to avoid getting attacked by those who wish to wipe them out as though they were nothing more than rats:

Quote:
Israel's Gaza Bantustan
  • Israel controls the Palestinian population registry and all important cards required to enter Gaza and the West Bank.
Israel's one state reality greeted us at the gates of the Gaza-Rafah crossing when we were asked by the Egyptian officer to present our Haweyah (Palestinian IDs) in order to be allowed through. It is not like we weren't expecting this request, we knew that it would come down to this even though our Australian passports clearly showed Gaza as our place of birth we were still not considered Palestinian nationals in our own home city. Rather, we were treated like foreigners who needed an almost impossible amount of bureaucratic red tape designed to discourage the likes of us of ever thinking of visiting loved ones back home.

Allow me to explain: Since Israel's establishment it has used the system of ID cards to differentiate between its Jewish and non-Jewish residents and citizens, a distinction needed in order to apply its apartheid discriminatory policies of separate and unequal treatment. When Israel occupied Gaza and the West Bank in 1967, its Interior Ministry began to also issue ID cards to the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories. By 1982, Israel passed the Identity Card Carrying and Displaying Act requiring all residents of Israel both inside its 1948 borders and inside the green line in the Occupied Territories, who are over 16 years of age, to carry at all times these ID cards and to present them upon request to the authorities.

Israeli citizens' ID cards come in blue plastic casing with the Israeli Coat of Arms on the outer cover. Palestinians prior to the establishment of the Palestinian Authority had orange casings in the West Bank and red casings in the Gaza Strip both with the IDF insignia embossed on the outer cover highlighting Israel's military control. Palestinians in the Occupied Territories who were forbidden entry into Israel's 1948 borders had green casings.

G-d bless the Israelis. The plight of those Poor Palestinian terrorists (i.e. not the genuine people who are suffering through the misdeeds of their more violent brethren) is enough to turn anyone into a rabid Israeli nationalist.

For a piece of land and a country that has been demonised so much by Islamist scum, it can't possibly live up to my very high expectations given that I consider almost anywhere so demonised by such people as a massive endorsement (although I'm sure the Israelis will try their very best, good people that they are).

I'm going to go to Israel and be disappointed, and do you know what? I'm going to blame it on the Jews. (Sorry, Jews.)
