First question: why didn't you say that before dropping F-bombs?

Second question: Does that prove those responsible were Christians, and not members of another religion?

Third question: Do you feel that that act is severe and significant enough to be called "persecution"?

Fourth question; Am I using semi colons right? I was too lazy to check.

They should be colons. No worries, though.

It annoys me how a lot of people with majority beliefs like Christianity and Atheism seem to think that they're on the fringe of society just because the entire population doesn't believe the same things as them. The people who are really on the fringe of society are the people with minority beliefs like me. I'm a Spiritualist, and I can't openly express my beliefs at all because I'd be scoffed at and frowned upon by almost everyone. Meanwhile, a lot of people with majority beliefs complain about and get offended by minor things to do with political correctness, like whether or not Santa is a religious figure and secular Christmas traditions. Why can't these people ever just suck it up, and resist their obsessive-compulsive urges to try to make everything 100% politically correct without exception? The world doesn't owe anyone total compliance with their beliefs. The real freedom of religion is that you can assemble with people who share the same beliefs as yourself, and not be persecuted for it. Your freedom of religion isn't being violated unless you're being classified as a criminal because of it.

Would it not be a fine thing if people kept their religious beliefs quiet and private or at least at home. Bring religion into the public domain is devisive.. Organized religion is one of the more unfortunate things to befall the human race.

Ah. Once on another forum I wasn't sure if I should use a colon or comma and went with a a semicolon and was told I had used it correctly.

Applied the same logic here and guessed wrong. Shouldn't have pressed my luck.

Since becoming an atheist, I abhor religion. If religion had never been invented, I would not have thought about how terrible or depraved I was growing up. It is the fault of religious people that I have this fear in the back of my mind about my soul and other such nonsense.

Imagine being a young child in the South and being attracted to other boys, not girls. Imagine growing up believing you were going to hell because of your feelings.

That is why I hate religion. It is nothing but torture.

Quote:
Faith is the surrender of the mind, it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other animals. It's our need to believe and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. ... Out of all the virtues, all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated --Christopher Hitchens

For instance, at the moment Iam reading a book about loneliness, I paid money for this book, I was expecting to read about loneliness, all its going on about is evolution.

Every time I would watch a programme on TV about the natural world, there would be constant pushing of the evolution dogma.

When I was at school, we didnt even get the choice to learn about creation, we had to have the evolutionists forcing their crap down our throats 100%

Why cant you people keep your insane view to yourselves?, what makes you feel you have to constantly ram it down our throats?, it makes me sick.

Can you imagine what someone would have to put up with if their beliefs were to conflict with quantum physics, or classical electromagnetism? Just by using a computer—even if it’s theirs and they’ve paid money for it—they have a lot of ideas shoved down their throats, ideas which are also an insane view to them, and there’s also no alternative at school. Why would they buy the dogma that all those weird effects quantum physics predicts and so many electronic devices rely upon are real? How can a machine relying on so many wobbly concepts, so much at odds with everyday experience and intuition, possibly work? And yet, when using it, you’re forced to believe it does!

Re; the atheist shoes. The company had been getting complaints from customers in the United States about orders being lost or delivered late. The company decided to run an experiment and sent a number of packages out with the aformentioned packing tape emblazoned with the word "Atheist" and compared it to an equal number of packages with regular packing tapes with no loogo. They even tried the experiment with other shipping methods besides USPS and found that the packages with the company logo going through the USPS were consistently late or non delivered as compared with packages with or woithout thye logo being sent through other companies such as FEDEX and UPS. The discrfimination seemed only to regularly occur in teh USPS sample group. The company has since offered customers thye option of company logo packing tape or not

I went to the shoe website and they describe the experiment exactly as you do. So this is an accurate description of their experiment.

It is also a very poorly designed experiment which does not prove what they think it proves.

USPS has a requirement that packages be sealed with clear or brown packing tape. (They do not say whether words are allowed or not on the tape, but they do say clear or brown.) Here is an article about the shoes/packing tape problem with a video.

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyat ... ist-shoes/

If you watch the video, you will see that the packing tape which says "atheist" is white (white is not approved packing tape color for USPS). The tape with no writing is brown, an approved color. Neither FedEx nor UPS have this specific requirement.

What I think actually happened is that the packages were delayed or not delivered not because they said "atheist" but because the packing tape was not of a type approved by USPS. Since FedEx and UPS don't have those regulations, the shipments through them would have been unaffected. That the shoes sometimes got through USPS eventually and sometimes didn't would be testament to different employees having different ideas about what you should do with a package that is packed incorrectly.

My religion dictates that the earth is flat.

But in school we didnt have the option of being taught all of the flat earth explanations for everything.

And I have to put up with all that nonsense about 'this round world', and those astronaut pics taken from space of the earth APPEARING to be round, and all that other sick toxic propaganda being thrusted down my throat every day!

Can't all of you round-earth-people EVER keep your opinions to yourselves!?!?!?

Well that's interesting. So unless the USPS implemented the restriction with the intention to persecute atheist cobblers I guess this is refuted. ;)

The funny thing is back then I never bothered to correct spelling errors. His words were something along the lines of "It confounds me how someone with such terrible spelling somehow managed to correctly use a semicolon."

It seems I have done a 180.
