I move in feminist circles and I've known no-one who flirts with Solanas' thinking, ever. I've only heard people mention similar things purely to provoke and raise a point of how vindictive the words of the oppressed can be while still being somewhat justified. I disagree with such provocative slurs on the whole, although the extent to which the S.C.U.M. manifesto is what it is fascinates me. I had a few deeply misandrist sloughs in my early teens so I can perversely relate to it.

But yeah. There was one point when we discussed it as a feminist society. I don't remember the conversation once being uncomfortable. We all regarded it as weird extremism but questioned what it meant in the bigger picture, that such things were printed by one deranged woman. It was probably a riveting read to me in the same way any depraved first-person narrative in a darker novel would be.
