What is the meaning of meaning?
I find myself at the mercy of awe quite frequently. I sometimes go for walks by a local beach and something might catch my eye, like a small eddy of water as the tide recedes and I feel a connection to it.
As an example I might find myself thinking about the ocean and the swirling chaotic systems of fluid dynamics and wave propagation which leads me to think of the complex systems which led to the formation of complex molecules that could take in energy and use it to multiply and adapt to different environments. It may lead me to think of how I am a continuation of these processes and the thoughts I am having are an extension of the systems in the ocean I am observing.
I might see the moon reflected on the oceans surface and think of the swirling chaotic systems of space/time which led to the formation of the particles and molecules which make up the reflection I am seeing and that my contemplation is also a swirling chaotic process.
These thoughts happen almost instantly and are accompanied by a feeling of awe and the sense that what I have seen is important. I sometimes pick up a stone or something that triggered this feeling and bring it home as a symbolic reminder of that feeling.
I was just looking at my collection of symbolic odds n ends that I have on my coffee table
And thinking, what is awe, why do I feel that these objects have meaning and what is the meaning of meaning?
In the Native American religions, Taoism, & most Indigenous religions, there is a feeling of connectedness to all things. I believe that most things including rocks & tiny grains of sand & earth have a spiritual aspect & these objects can "speak" to us. I think that the things in your collection reached out to you.
i was one of the fortunate ones to live in nature in youth..
This instinct of Truth is certainly true..
but without actually experiencing the truth in feeling of this connectedness..
it simply not exist for many folks...
separated from the TRUTH instinct of all nature...
A
livevilivedevil..not separated
as death..
in life.
The only TRUE evil in
LIVE

That's the same with Hermeticism and the western mystery traditions. Qabalah tends to get quite high-tech with it though and wraps itself around a lot of what Plato said about physicality descending from the mind of God.

What NinsMom said reminded me of something I noted from an interview with Guillermo Del Toro. I think I posted it here in response to something else way back.
aghogday - Lewis certainly has a rich and interesting perspective on things - I've returned to his The Abolition of Man a fair few times. I find the line quoted in my signature perfectly sums up and pins down that particular rationalist/scientistic mindset that ever looms.
salamandaqwerty - Goethe seems to have been coming up a lot in my reading and listening of late. I ought to look into him.

Yes..Hopper.. your signature line is impressing in a truth way..and what i see as summing up the suffering of man..the most.. in our modern cultural ways..
The creature comforts of life..can come with a high price....
The heart is an art worth saving..definitely.. at least... to this he from he art..to heart....NOW forevermorenow...
The artist is always the savior of the heart of humankind...in a mechanical cognition based culture......
TG for CREATIVITY..THE SOUL OF human....STILL EXISTS....

Any two individuals may have a different perception of what is meaning to them..
IT IS up to the individual..to find meaning..and purpose for themselves...
IN looking within..
Whether it is sleeping a day..
Or living a way...
No meaning can be meaning too...
But in the long run whatever will be is up to ya...
The option is to create one's shadow new..every now...
And..with that..can come the experience of bliss..
And yah..that's a pretty meaningful place to be..
Always NOW..can be the reality of bliss..for those who
never give up..until they arrive at that NOW..and stay tHere
NOWONEFOREVERMOREEVERFORONENOW..
YES..THAT'S A LONG WORD..but it doesn't come close to expressing..
life without any perception of time..other than the NOW OF BLISS....where
every second is longer than a thousand years..of BLISS..AS AGAIN
THERE IS NO PERCEPTION OF TIME IN BLISS..
ONLY FULLest HUMAN FREEDOM...
IT'S A FAIRly KOOL THING...:)
believe it or not....
And this is what IT
TRULY ALL MEANS TO ME...
IN A NUT SHELL..
WHATEVER
i
am..;)
i know ONE THING FOR SURE..
HEAVEN IS REAL
AND YES..
IT CAN
BE
NOW!
for me @LEAST....
