Yes. Unfortunately, we can't chose our relatives. But yes, he is known as the family narcissist.

Uh... really. And how is he supposed to be related?

Hmmm......
I sense doubt there.
Wasn't it you that whined to me about doubting your word a while back?
:chin:

Conservatives don't whine. Neither do military men. Though I do recall you whining a few times. Obama is my cousin. My family tree is on ancestry.com should you have any doubts. It's public. :shameonyou:

If it's documented, I'll take your word for it. But unless you and your family had had prior knowledge of the President being related to you, I still question if all your kin refer to him so disparagingly.
And yes, conservatives certainly do whine. They whine about poor people, the handicapped, and minorities "getting a free ride," when they allegedly pay the bill. They whine about how evolution alone is taught in science classes. They whine still about Saddam Husein's WMD's and Al Qaeda associations when all evidence disproves any of that. I could go on and on.

Having seen him at a couple of family reunions, I would say my entire family has known for sometime. Concerning the whining, no one has ever topped you, Kraichgauer. No wonder you don't have a life outside this website!

While that is not at all out of the realm of possibility, I'd imagine that I, as a descendant of Frankish speakers from Germany's Rhine country, have a greater chance of being related to Charlemagne - or as he was called in his own Frankish/Germanic language, Karl der Grosse.

That's depressing. :(
Some of my ancestors are Rheinländers.

With 19370 posts to date since 2010 on WP alone, how much of an off-line life could someoe have?

No shame in your people coming from the Rhineland.
And say what you may, despite my posting on WP, I have managed to rear a child, have a happy marriage, get drunk on occasion, and write horror fiction. Even as I write this, I'm watching WWE wrestling.

I didnt see the J word mentioned in there but I won't press that issue since that might come off as mean. :P

You saw the President at family reunions? I'm sorry, but you never chose to disclose this information all the time you had been on this site, so forgive me if I seem skeptical. As I recall, you had once claimed to be a descendant of Charlemagne. While that is not at all out of the realm of possibility, I'd imagine that I, as a descendant of Frankish speakers from Germany's Rhine country, have a greater chance of being related to Charlemagne - or as he was called in his own Frankish/Germanic language, Karl der Grosse.

Kraichgauer, you are very short-sighted. Until any officer's permanent retirement status is shored up, certainly it would unwise to mention any such relationship until after securing such retirement - especially with someone as capricious as my cousin.

If he's capricious, how is he any more so than any other President? Bush Jr. had had a vindictive streak to him beneath his bumbling humor.

I dare say I could cite more examples with my cousin than you can with Bush or many other US Presidents. Either way, you circumvent the main point of using discretion in the first place.

Well, I have absolutely no reason to dislike the guy. All the talk about Obama being a narcissist owes more to Republican talking points that they themselves started to believe, a lot like that birth certificate bullsh*t (please, please don't start claiming that you somehow have insider knowledge that he was born in Kenya :P ).

Narcisism is a pre-requisite for the job, regardless of party.

Although the birthers get more and more ridiculous as time goes on. I still work with someone convinced he is part of some African "Chrislam" conspiracy to enslave us all. My sister sent me a link to a Southpark clip that was a parody of Ocean's 11 where Obama got himself elected just to pull of an elaborate heist that is more believable than the "evidence" that he was not born in the US.

I personally think it is much funnier that I have parents sometimes convinced he is a pro-Sharia Muslim, and at different times convinced he is a dangerous radical Christian (the whole Wright debacle). Or how they will be talking about how weak and helpless he is one minute and then switching right over to evil tyrant ignoring the Constitution with impunity without even noticing.

I can verify that he was born in Hawaii. It's his mother whom I question. She always was a bit a of a space cadet. It has also been my view that he does have Islamic leanings.

What about his mother that you question?
And even if he has Pro-Islamic leanings, so what? We have absolute freedom of religion in this country, so the President can believe anything he wants. But as Obama's father had been an atheist, and he had not had any religious affiliation prior to joining the Congregationalist faith, I think a good case could be made that had had for most of his years led a life of unbelief.

I vividly recall that South Park episode; it was a riot.
And I agree - narcissism is a prerequisite for the Presidency, regardless of party (with the possible exception of Jimmy Carter, and see how many terms that got him!).
In closing - the right is absolutely absurd in their contradictory hatred of the President. Very few will admit that the main reason why they despise him is his race.

Based on his political actions and stated political stances on the issues, I'd say he has more of an atheist-humanist leaning. But anything other than Christian is unelectable.

While I am certain that there are plenty who despise himbased on race, I think the majority base it on political party. The vitriol from both sides has been getting to some pretty insane levels in the last 10-12 years. It tends to go in phases. The Democrats have loosened up a bit lately, trying to appeal to a wider cross section, but the Republicans have doubled down on their hardcore religious fundamentalist garbage. This mid-term won't be any kind of sweep for the Dems, but come presidential election time (when the Dems can actually get their base out to vote), I think the Repubs are going to seriously crash and burn. The white, fundamentalist Christian, gun owning, male dominated, anti-everything demographic pandering is really starting to alienate a lot of registered voters. Especially younger voters.

Watching South Park doesn't say anything flattering about someone's intellect.

For Carter it was probably more stupidity than a lack of narcissism......

Uh huh,,,,,So I guess the left's main reason for their continued hatred of Bush is that he was a white president. What else could it be since Obama has proven to be little to no improvement over Bush?

It doesn't really say anything one way or the other about their intellect any more than someone who reads the Onion. Granted, I don't think I could stomach 2 episodes back to back due to the ridiculously formulaic nature of the show, but it does hit on the absurdity of a lot of current issues in some novel ways. Some people watch it for the crude humor, some for the thick satire, some for both.
