^this would happen no matter what the minimum wage is. Any technology developed that can eliminate the need for humans has always been implemented and always will be.
That being said, the proposed minimum wage hikes are somewhat drastic. It should be a much more gradual uncrease, and should be tied to CPI in order to avoid this mess in the future.
A hike in minimum wage would have the benefit of raising the inflation rate, which is currently to low (to the detriment of large scale economic recovery).
