That's my motivation for creating this thread! I want people to know, solar and wind power are great energy generators and can work with coal. It need not be all or nothing!

"Rant against Big Carbon" Really...?

I want to start by saying that I am not funded by the Koch Brothers but that the science is on their side and not on Al Gores'.

First, the idea that Carbon-DiOxide is a toxic substance is preposterous! If levels of Carbon-MonOxide were rising I would be concerned and as such if levels of oxygen were decreasing. But neither is happening!

Second the case for Climate Change is being proven wrong every day such as today when California is getting El Niño conditions. Just two months ago California Governor Jerry Brown claimed that the drought was permenent and a result of climate change in a poor attempt to push more regulations this time forcing the only reliable republican voters into bankruptcy by placing water restrictions on farmers.

Let me ask you, why do you believe it isn't a pollutant when your body breathes it out? Does your body exhale oxygen? Why would you believe something that can make the ocean too acidic for certain life forms isn't a pollutant? I recommend studying carbon sinks and the carbon cycle. See how it works. It's not as simple as you think.

Ever hear of people trapped in mines and caves, or in collapsed buildings in danger of dying from lack of oxygen? It's due to the fact they are exhaling all that carbon dioxide and keeping the oxygen. Soon all that's left is carbon dioxide and they suffocate. In this scenario, it's just as bad as carbon monoxide, no?

You just made my point for me! "Soon all that's left is carbon dioxide and they suffocate" You have just proven your own point wrong, it could have been nitrogen in the mine and not CO2 because even in your own words it is a lack of oxygen not elevated levels of CO2 that suffocates the miners. There is no short supply of oxygen in our world.

And to your final point that it is "just as bad as Carbon Monoxide" is a absolute fallacy. Carbon Monoxide is toxic to humans because your body scoops it up thinking that it is oxygen. Carbon Dioxide on the other hand is a byproduct of Cellular Respiration and as such is exhaled.

In your own words "...dying from a lack of oxygen." You have just disproven your own point, it is a lack of oxygen that kills and sickens not elevated levels of CO2. Have you heard anyone talking about a lack of oxygen in the air?

And to your point that carbon dioxide is just as bad as carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is toxic in trace amounts because your body mistakes it for oxygen while your body exhales carbon dioxide, so it cannot mistake CO2 for oxygen.

@RichardJ: Carbon dioxyde can be toxic at high concentration. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercapnia
Now to be fair industrial emissions of CO2 are far too low to be toxic to humans in open space, but this is a things of great concern for divers. And no, science do not support in any way the side of the Koch Brothers. Examples:

That is not called science, that is called political manovering for more buracracy and regulations. This is the same as the EPA spending $10,000 on reasearching the emissions of BBQs, in a few years they will be regulating them.

It's not a matter of CO2 being instantly toxic any time in the foreseeable future, as in you are in danger of suffocation like those in collapsed mine, if left without a source of fresh air, more of it taking a toll on the body. Does anyone know how it will adversely affect overall health?

Right now we have a very large El Nino in the Pacific ocean, off the coast of South America. We shall see how it plays out this winter.
