Since so many of the tactics, language and issues resemble those of the Vietnam era I tend to believe the current level hard feelings have something to with the issues and the anger of those times not being resolved conclusively but just laying dorment. Baby boomers still are largely driving the debate and passing it on to mellenials. One would think US defeat in Vietnam and Richard Nixon resignation in scandal would have made conservatives flailing outliers scrambling and failing to have even the most minimal of relevence. During the mid 1970's it seemed that way. Democrats with already a large advantage gained 4 seats in the Senate and 49 seats in the house. Also what was the counterculture was rapidly taking over the mainstream. Yet by 1980 Reagan and the Republicans werecin political power but while there was retraction in a few areas former counterculture values still held sway, especially amoung influencers a situation still largely true dispite the anger this has caused amoung conservatives.

Not being able to save, because of college debt. Is a excuse, plain and simple. Liberals are hated by many (not just conservatives), because they don't accept personal responsibility for their actions.

For those who can only find a sh***y low-paying job it is a valid excuse. Boomers didn't have to take out insane college loans because college wasn't expensive for them. They also didn't even need to go to college because they had cushy union jobs. These jobs are now GONE. These are f*****g FACTS. Saying that people "don't accept personal responsibility" is a personal attack through invalidation, not a legitimate argument. Conservatives acting like total sociopathic s**theads who would rather attack victims instead of addressing the actual systemic problems... this is the source of anger in todays politics.

I certainly hope that that "wink" means you're joking----cuz, not only is it NOT "only Americans", it's mostly NON-Americans that start / participate, in the threads.

Yes and no with the wink. I mean that Americans seem to feel the need to constantly go on and on about politics, whereas many other peoples aren't that interested.
And if it is mostly non-Americans who start or participate in this forum, then why has the whole subsection turned into basically nothing but a discussion about American politics?
There were a few topics about Brexit and the French elections when they happened, but nothing compared to the relentless onslaught of American political topics, and basically nothing about the politics from anywhere else in the world.
And just forget discussions about philosophy or religion, unless it's Christianity.

Aren't there conservatives who dodge personal responsibility?

Anyway, borrowing a lot of money that you'll pay off with a job you may or may not get is gambling and gambling is irresponsible. Why encourage gambling and call it "personal responsibility"?

Why has college gotten more expensive than it used to be anyway?

Who cares just let the arguments continue. By doing so, people are exposing themselves to a different point of view and as a result are less ignorant of the world. How else are we as a people going to find answers other than debating and discussing them?

I am not sure if their is another way. If we do not discuss we live in an Eco-chamber and as a result we do not figure out what is the right course to take.

^ True.

I'm still not sure if Russia really manipulated the election.

Maybe America's been manipulating someone else's conflict.

A wide variety of reasons, first and foremost, demand. Knowing that most high paying professions require a degree, there's been a mad dash to get that degree over the last forty years. Furthermore, now that everyone and their pet dog has a bachelor's in said fields, the last decade has seen a doubling of the amount of people applying for graduate school to get a masters to separate themselves from the bachelor's degree holders. That's what I would call a 'natural cycle', because the increase in both cases is due to natural competition.

That said, there's more nefarious things going on (at least here in the states), namely we combine minor league sports with our education system and that tends to raise costs. For every college football team that claims they're a 'revenue generator' there's a new stadium and multi-million dollar coach that show a giant red-line on the financials of said institution.

Second, unnecessary infrastructure, colleges have been building recreation halls and amenities that are completely non-essential to education, housing, etc. The money from that infrastructure comes from 'student fees' about the only place state colleges don't have governmental oversight, since student's themselves vote on fee increases to support said infrastructure. The problem there is that the students that vote for said infrastructure (generally at the behest of school admin) are long gone by the time the infrastructure is built (we're talking 3-5 years to plan/build) and the bill (student fees) is due.

Those are the three biggest problems in my opinion.

will@rd and kraftiekortie are correct. American political parties have become far more extreme than they used to be. The benefit to the parties by doing this is that they get momentary national attention. They don't mind this fleeting influence because the alternative is a public which ignores politics (see the 1950s). So, in a craven way to remain relevant, watch for partisans to begin upping the ante with a resurgence of self-immolation as the next chic political practice.

Meanwhile, reasoned dialogue has lost its place in America. Abject idiots now rule the national conversation. These rodeo clowns simply distract from the real deep state in which both major American political parties play their roles well, or else.

In other words, look to those who are still smiling at the end of each day while the rest of humanity is beaten down just a little bit more than it was the day before.

College is expensive because of labor costs. Not just salaries but pensions and health care benefits.

If you don't have a 3.65+ gpa then don't complain about not getting into college because you obviously didn't work hard enough. You know why conservatives make more money than you? Because instead of craken open beers and smoking bowls they worked hard in school and worked their AS*ES off at their first few jobs. People aren't conservative because they're rich they're rich because they're conservative. Don't be mad at hard workers just because your lazy.

George Soros, most of Hollywood and and a majority of billionaire donors to the Democrates are not conservative. Some of them must have worked hard.

All the conservative Autistics that post here on disability are all lazy bums?(SMH)

Hard work increases your chance at being rich, talent increases your chances of being rich, having the right connections increases your chance of being rich most of all. Political world view has little or nothing to do with it.

Hmm. The responses to the OP appear to have proved the point.

Everyone needs to stop with the personal attacks or formal warnings will be issued, and the thread locked.
