With more than 55% of its population living in homogeneous zip codes, the Cleveland metro area is the most segregated urban area in the country. Of the roughly 100 zip codes in the area, 63 areCleveland predominantly white and are home to nearly 70% of Cleveland’s white population. The metro area’s black population is similarly segregated, with 30.9% concentrated in just six zip codes.
Segregation by income is also a problem in Cleveland. In February, the Martin Prosperity Institute at the University of Toronto ranked the Cleveland metro area number one in income segregation among large metro areas. Median household income in just one of the primarily black zip codes in the area is greater than $24,000. By contrast, median income among white households in the area is nearly $57,000. Low incomes may be the result of a sluggish labor market. In 2013, 20.2% of black Cleveland residents were unemployed, the highest rate among large metro areas and nearly four times the white unemployment rate of 5.4%.
The State of Segregation in the Suburbs For the same levels of economic attainment, minorities are still living, separately, in poorer communities.
Two villages, Hempstead and Garden City, lie adjacent to one another in Nassau County. Hempstead has a medium household income of $52,000. Garden City's is $150,000. Hempstead, in parts, resembles an inner city — with bodegas, laundromats, low-rise apartment buildings. Garden City is a suburban idyll, with tree-lined streets, gourmet grocery stores, and large colonial-style homes. Garden City is 88 percent white; Hempstead is 92 percent black and Hispanic (split about evenly). The transition between the two villages occurs within one block, a visual whiplash. See for yourself. Travel up North Franklin Street on Google maps.
"Long Island is becoming more diverse, Nassau County is becoming more diverse," says John Logan, a Brown University sociologist who has been studying demographics since the 1970s. "But within Nassau County there's been hardly any change in the degree of segregation. The predominantly minority areas are becoming more minority. And the predominantly white areas are staying mostly white."
A good way to evaluate these neighborhoods is to look at the elementary schools, which often represent a sub-community of a larger school district. Overall, suburban schools are academically better than city schools. But white suburban schools are better than black and Hispanic suburban schools. "The average black or Hispanic elementary school student attends a school that ranks below the 45th percentile in the state," Logan writes in his paper. The average white student in the suburbs? They attend schools that score above the 60th percentile.
Again, Long Island lends a dramatic example. There, the percentage of schools that instruct mostly minority students has more than doubled in the last 20 years, according to a report out of the University of California (Los Angeles). The percent of intensely segregated schools — school where less than 10 percent of the students are white — has increased as well, from 4 percent to 11 percent from 1989 to 2010. Black and Latino students attend school with nearly triple the percentage of low-income peers than typical white and Asian students.

Yes, but at least the American and British camps didn't have wholesale, industrialized scale murder taking place.
They used fire storms and atomic bombs in lieu...
The Axis considered these war crimes...
When the British erected a statue to honour "Bomber Harris", there was a major outrage in modern Germany...
But yes, these events were nowhere near the scale of the slaughter by the Axis and Communist regimes...
What to you think about the stories regarding: "Eisenhower's death camps"...?

To be sure, the Allies didn't have clean hands during the war, and Eisenhower's treatment of German POW's was indefensible.

Now, lest others accuse me of Axis Sympathies, let me point out: the entire Second World War, in my view, was merely one great, big land grab for Allies and Axis Powers alike. It was what Stalin termed an "Imperialist War", though Stalin was an Imperialist as much as any, including Hitler himself. Never understood the phrase "Good War", as applied to The Second World War. For there was nothing good about it at all!
IMO the main difference in the two wars is what happened after they ended. The Civil War caused no lasting changes in the social structure of the South. Blacks were still basically slaves and or second class well into the 1980s (biracial marriage was illegal in Mississippi as late as 1987, as in you could be arrested and sent to prison for being a black man who married a white woman). Share cropping replaced slavery and this lasted well into the 20th century. All the rich planters had to do to get their land back was swear an oath of loyalty to the Union. No punishments for aiding the rebellion. They clung onto segregation and Jim Crow as long as they could.
At WW2s end, the Nazis were made to pay for their crimes. It was ensured that Germany would never be a military power again.
Actually, interracial marriage became legal all over the country thanks to Loving V Virginia in the 1960's. But it is true, such marriages ended in prison sentences in states like Mississippi, up to that time.
Germany is actually a military power again, as we needed their participation on our side in the Cold War. But Germany today is a soundly democratic society, which is one of the most significant outcomes after WWII.
Well, another difference is this: for the most part, Southerners are allowed to take pride in their heritage; the Germans are not, anymore.
The antebellum South was a horrible society IMO. And Southerners today hanker for those good ole days when slaves chopped cotton. Yes, Germans dont erect statues of Hilter and Rommel, unlike the South, where you cant walk ten feet without tripping over one of Lee or Davis.

Instead, Germans tend to respect German historical figures who were actually good people ... like Ludwig van Beethoven or the Brothers Grimm.
That's what southern Americans need to realize. Mark Twain has always been a symbol of southern heritage. Liberals aren't trying to take him away because he was a good person.

Liberals are not but SJW’s are and have been at it for over a century
Why The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Has Been Banned
n 1885, Concord Public Library banned the book, attacking the novel as "absolutely immoral in its tone.” One library official noted that "all through its pages there is a systematic use of bad grammar and an employment of inelegant expression
In 1902, the Brooklyn Public Library banned The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn with the statement that "Huck not only itched but he scratched," and that he said "sweat" when he should have said "perspiration."
In general, the debate over Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has centered around the language of the book, which has been objected to on social grounds. Huck Finn, Jim and many other characters in the book speak in regional dialects of the South. It is a far cry from the queen’s English. More specifically, the use of the word “n****r” in reference to Jim and other African-American characters in the book, along with the portrayal of those characters, has offended some readers, who consider the book racist.
Although many critics have argued that Twain’s ultimate effect is to humanize Jim and attack the brutal racism of slavery, the book frequently flagged and protested by students and parents alike. It was the fifth most-frequently-challenged book in the United States during the 1990s, according to the American Library Association.
Yielding to public pressure, some publishers have substituted "slave" or "servant" for the term that Mark Twain uses in the book, which is derogatory to African Americans.
In 2015, an ebook version published by the company CleanReader offered a version of the book with three different filter levels—clean, cleaner, and squeaky clean—a strange edition for an author known to enjoy swearing.
The Book Burners Against Mark Twain 2001 Article
Twain’s knee-jerk Jersey critics said the Missouri-born icon dishonored the heritage of Chicken Bone Beach, a section of the Jersey shore where blacks were segregated until the 1950s. “It’s truly disgraceful that a writer who used the n-word to describe African Americans has taken center stage at Chicken Bone Beach,” William Marsh, president of the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, told the Atlantic City Press.
“You can’t just say he was writing how people talk, and overlook what he wrote,” the NAACP’s William Marsh said last week as he cheered the removal of Twain’s statue overlooking Chicken Bone Beach. Yet, that’s exactly what the anti-Twain marauders have done

I'm a little surprised...
Most people resist the notion...
What do you know about the "Morgenthau plan"?
What do you know about the estimated effect on the German population, had it been implemented?

Had the Morgenthau plan been implemented, Germany would have been reduced to an agrarian society, which would have meant widespread poverty, starvation, and disease. Or in other words, it would have made Germany ripe picking for either communism from the east, or a resurgence of fascism. Any plan for a culturally liberal Germany would have been impossible. But even if implemented, what nobody save maybe Patton foresaw was that the next great rivalry in Europe after Hitler was gone would be the Soviets and their satellites vs the democratic west. There would have been little choice but to scrap the Morgenthau plan, as a militarily strong Germany was a necessity.

Impressed by your knowledge...Kudos...
Have you come across a plausable estimate of the number of millions who would have died through starvation under the Morgenthau plan, had it been implemented?
Sorry to tell you, but the Civil War wasn't just about slavery. It was a states' rights issue. And you should look up one of Abraham Lincoln's quotes on blacks and whites. You might not like what he had to say on the matter; he was clearly saying that whites were the superior race. Lincoln was not the savior everyone wants to make him out to be.

Why yes, I am a conservative.
The right to do what? Own slaves?
What's the point of having separate laws for separate states?
Conservatives are always talking about how "moral relativism" is wrong. Conservatives are always claiming that the words "right" and "wrong" have objective definitions.
How can the concept of states' rights be reconciled with the concept of moral absolutism?
He just said racist things in public to maintain his image. Privately, he was very kind towards his black friends.
"In his company I was never in any way reminded of my humble origin, or of my unpopular color."
- Frederick Douglass
Lincoln was trying to hold together a country that was on the verge of a race war. He had to appease the southerners to a certain degree.
Yes he was.
He was also very manly.

I believe Lincoln only became a "free-soiler" because of political expediency. He was the consummate politician. He knew that being an outright Abolitionist would have been political suicide.
I believe his anti-slavery sentiments were stronger than what was stated, though he did believe in the intrinsic inferiority of the "black race," and wanted to settle them in Africa.
Lincoln could totally beat up the stupid vampires from Twilight.
He doesn't hate all vampires though. He and Blacula are best pals.

If we look at the civil war from a state's rights perspective we're focusing almost exclusively on the 'Supremacy Clause' in the U.S. Constitution, which posits the federal government is the ultimate authority and can override a state's individual laws with it's own. Yet, the confederacy (lower C since they were never officially recognized as a nation), practically copied the same law they were allegedly fighting against verbatim.
U.S. Constitution, Article VI, Clause 2 (Supremacy Clause):
Constitution of the confederate states of America, Article 6, section 3 (Supremacy Clause):
You can't say it's about states rights and then go make the exact same law binding said states. Well I guess you can if you're a hypocrite, or the issue is really something else...
It's pretty sad how some countries can't accept their own ugly history.
Meanwhile, Germany has accepted responsibility for the Holocaust. Canada has accepted responsibility for the extinction of the Beothuk and the Sadlermiut. Britain has accepted responsibility for British imperialism.
