I also hate it when cowboys are portrayed as "uniquely American".

Cowboys aren't uniquely American. Many other countries have, historically, had people who were exactly like cowboys in everything but their name. In old Australia, there were stockmen. They were exactly like cowboys, but Australian. Similarly, Mexico had vaqueros, Argentina had gauchos, and Chile had Huasos.

Herding cattle while riding a horse and wearing a big hat isn't a uniquely American thing.

Nope. The oldest profession is medicine. Prostitution didn't even exist in North America until white people showed up.

So you don’t think all throughout time that there existed women trading sex for money or goods? North America isn’t the world.

EXACTLY!! Don't waste your breath Sly (I should've just told this to myself - LOL); you can't duel an unarmed person. In the 70’s I attended the Calgery Stampede. They still run that every year.

It's often written about how the continental pagan Saxons were deliberately and without cause attacked by the fanatical Christian Franks who imposed Christianity on them.

While Frankish actions in the Saxon wars often involved indefensible atrocities, the fact remains that the Saxons had been attacking Frankish lands nonstop, raiding, and committing mass robbery and murder. Having enough, the Franks under Charlemagne launched their own wars on the Saxons with the intention of converting them. The Franks understood that the Saxon pagan religion was inspiring this nonstop raiding, as the Franks in Pre-Christian times had practised the same warlike religion.

The children's game "Ring around the Rosy" is about catching and dying of the plague. :skull:

It isn't really, but so many people believe it we might as pretend that it is.

The beaver (my country's national animal) bites its own testicles off. 8O

Yet another myth that refuses to die. One of Aesop's fables tells a comical tale of a Eurasian beaver doing this to keep from being hunted since beaver testicles were commonly used as medicine. Since they are *inside* the beaver's body, this would be just a tiny bit difficult.

This is a very good one.

It was Charles Darwin who realized that evolution was driven by natural selection and sexual selection.

Protip For People Who Like to Argue With Creationists: Many of the common criticisms of evolution that creationists bring up do not apply to pre-Darwinian types of evolution. Perhaps people who reject the Darwinian model should consider other forms of evolution, instead of rejecting the fossil record entirety.

I also hate it when Native American culture is portrayed as super-special ... as though Native Americans belong to a different species or something.

It is true that Native Americans lived in harmony with nature and took the time to recognize nature's beauty ... but they did not invent that lifestyle. During prehistory, all people saw the world that way.

Also, Native Americans only used herbal medicine because modern, science-based medicine was not available to them.

"The Magna Carta was an early call for democracy!"

Nope. The Magna Carta only gave rights to the nobles.

Also, some parts of the Magna Carta are anti-Semitic.

I also hate it when people in the autistic community try to diagnose every single historical figure with autism.

Harsh Advice Time: Diagnosing historical figures with autism isn't productive. If you think that people with autism are intelligent (and we usually are) then you should demonstrate this by doing something smart yourself. Don't latch onto the achievements of others.

Yeah ... Einstein discovered relativity ... but have you discovered anything? Better get to work.

Hmmm, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a, seemingly, emotional response to a post like mine----usually, a Mod will just step-in and say, something like: “Attacking someone is against the rules”, and that’s that.

I was just wondering if DarthMetaKnight has ever been publicly chided / thusly-threatened for any of HIS posts, cuz…..

Charlemagne was French.

No, Charlemagne was a Frank. While it's true the Franks were the ancestors of many French, they were also the forebears of modern day Germans, Belgians, and Dutch. Charlemagne himself had been born and raised in the German speaking area of modern day Belgium, and ruled from the German city of Aachen, and the language he spoke was a dialect of the middle Franconian dialect of German. In his native language, he was called Karl der Grosse.
