Even those reduced to working like horses never give the impression of conscious suffering. It would be a pity if these Chinese supplant all other races, For the likes of us the mere thought is unspeakably dreary. How little difference there is between men and women; what kind of fatal attraction Chinese women possess which enthrals the corresponding men to such an extent that they are incapable of defending themselves against the formidable blessing of offspring .

Indians live in great filth and considerable stench at ground level, they do little, and need little. Primitive yet intrusive.

Correct. However, by having a national holiday in the name of MLK, we're celebrating the man as much as his ideas. If all of ends up being true, we should no longer elevate the man.

Maybe we should never have holidays in honor of people, only ideas.

Works for me. I like Twilight's idea to have it renamed Civil Rights Day.

I like that too. :wtg:

Well, you also have Columbus day, and that guy wound up genociding a whole bunch of indigenous Americans and when he was done with that he started a business selling child sex slaves. This after his original orders from Spain was to "befriend the locals". Not exactly a swell guy. But he did re-discover America by accident while trying to reach India after (correctly) being told by contemporary wisdom (which had a fairly accurate idea of the size and circumference of the earth) that it was much to long a trip. So there's that.

Well it's not like anybody actually celebrates MLK Day or Columbus Day. It's just an excuse to get out of school for a day.

It's disturbing that people are jumping to conclusions about the claims without considering they might have been made by anti black, racist ,FBI members with an axe to grind.

I can also smell a rat given that King's speech against the Vietnam war is now becoming more popular and people realising he wasn't just some liberal poster boy.

Unless it's proveable, he should be assumed innocent.

Even if it were indisputably true, it shouldn't take away from his achievements. We should celebrate and promote achievements even if they are by badly flawed people.

You can definitely celebrate a person's achievements. Continuing to celebrate a person if their actions are known to be or found to be egregious against others is accepting the behavior.

I agree on innocent until proven guilty. At this point it seems with MLK that there are three possibilities:

1) The author or whomever he is that says he listened to the tapes is fabricating the whole thing and is willfully besmirching MLK.

2) The FBI tapes and documents are a fabrication, a lie.

3) It's true.

At this point I believe any of the above might be true.

I heard similar accusations about Martin Luther King years ago. This stuff shouldn't really surprise people. If the media can turn someone as useless and unpleasant as John McCain into a national hero, then they could certainly have covered up embarrassing facts about Martin Luther King for all thee years.

I'll tell you what, why don't we remove all reference to MLK if white Americans agree to remove all reference to the slave loving George Washington, paedophile rapist president Thomas Jefferson or to the mass murderer Christopher Columbus. That seems like a fair trade Darmok.
