I don't believe most of the bible. One minute it tells you that killing is a sin, the next it tells you to commit genocide in wars and put sinners to death. It contradicts itself a LOT and the selective morality of what Christians (Catholics AND Protestants) take out of it drives me insane. :x

Do unto others before they can do unto you. Seriously, don't wait for someone to f**k you up the ass! Stick it up their ass first. Just offering some advice for the young people here -- no charge. I try to pass along valuable knowledge when I can.

There’s some responsible advice!

“Do unto others” and then run and hide by, perhaps, moving out of state. Life hacks for the younger members!

Is it any wonder most young millennials nowadays are turning atheist?

Thank you! I'm happy to be of service to those with less life experience.

''These are more like hidden virtues.''

Don't use up energy in a short amount of time

Don't use up all your sexual motives on one person, before you know it, it dehumanises them.

Don't cry out for injustice if the bell has not yet tolled in its favour

Two wrongs don't make a right

If someone is prejudiced and they think its a look, show them its not.

If someone doesn't agree with your views, don't pay them more attention than is necessary

Don't mistake a nugget for a work of art

Rejoice when God has shone a halo of light around you

Don't look for cracks you don't wish to see

May their be no fruit in temptation through the path of the lord, that serves as Jesus Christ.

Amen.

I don't know. I'm a Millenial and I turned atheist... because I discovered my morals largely boil down to honesty (which is a bit ironic, as I'm quite a talented liar - but what would be moral about not doing what you couldn't do anyway?) and I couldn't honestly say that I believed all they told me.

What if one of the things you or another “moral nihilist” wants to do involves hurting someone else?

Well, I wouldn't, as I don't enjoy hurting others, and I also tend to value my friends and family. But if someone did want to hurt others, it has absolutely nothing to do with morals or lack there of.

I know some people who have some sadistic traits and would enjoy hurting others - but don't do it because of their moral values.

I don't think it's a useful way to frame it. Whether a person does or doesn't hurt others, has to do with their genes + enviroment. You could argue that it's because a different enviroment results in different moral values, but that's why I don't think it's very useful, because the way the word "morals" is used, implies that you can simply choose them.

Some people I know (a subset of those I mentioned earlier) did choose not to harm others at some points of their lives.
Morals are shaped by environment, especially by culture and social development, but I don't see why it would invalidate them.

I see no reason to harm people.

It’s a waste of my time.

It’s far more rewarding to be nice to people.

I just try to be a nice person.

Any moron can be an a$$hole, but it takes effort and patience to do good.

And a little empathy and compassion goes a long way! :D

I have very strong morals, but I wouldn’t say they correlate to what society views as “good morals”. I will fight passionately for causes I believe in (you know, social justice stuff), to the point of breaking down due to my anger/frustration if others don’t agree. However I steal, lie (although I tend to be bad at lying to people’s faces), manipulate people, and can hurt people with my bluntness or when I tell them the truth (often seen as insults). I don’t feel bad about any of these behaviours. I’d never actively cause harm for the sake of it, or for “fun”, and it’s not malevolent in intention. I just don’t feel guilty or see the point in changing - it’s a purely neutral feeling, not pleasurable or anything. Is this part of my ASD? I can’t tell. I still have empathy and care deeply for people, and understand the misconception that autistic people don’t have empathy. Any advice would be great. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? I’ll cry if I see someone being bullied or watch a documentary about suffering, but then go and shoplift and lie and hurt people’s feelings and it doesn’t bother me.
