Noted in the OP.

"Incel" has become a term to describe an attitude of self loathing combined with misogyny much to the chagrin of the female who coined the term. What I was alluding was the self depreciation or even self loathing in some of the alt rock lyrics of the era which was a change from the past. Nobody was using the term "Incel" in song lyrics and these groups were not proto incel. Indeed, most of the groups were feminists who placed the blame solely on themselves(See Nirvana's 'All Apologies'). I was wondering if that change from the braggadocio of a lot of classic rock lyrics to self depreciation was a step in what would devolve into incel thinking.

Possibly for some: anecdotally I know that I deeply identified with the self-hating alienation that was a big element of some bands in that era of rock, particularly Nirvana. Looking back I think it reinforced those feelings and made life harder to cope with.

I have sometimes wondered if I’d have gone that way if I’d had sufficient social inclinations at that age to seek out other alienated adolescents online.

That said: the incel phenomena didn’t really blow up into a significant phenomena, nor did it generate solitary terrorist actions, until 15-20 years after the alt-rock/grunge wave had petered out and ceased to be part of the mainstream media landscape.
So, although there certainly was plenty of alienated self-hate in the male songwriters of that genre’s lyrical style, I think if we were to look for pop-cultural influences more recent trends might be more relevant.
Although the synchronicity of “incel” with “alt-right” may be of significant relevance.

If you have misogyny/incel issues you want to get rid of this forum should be supportive. If not you are part of the problem, not the solution.

When it comes to incel men, they probable do have sex with prostitutes quite often I am guessing? Even though they want women to want them for more than a business transaction, I am assuming they still do it regularly, just for some relief?

some do, but i think most are either too shy/financially unstable to do it or are like me and did it once and found it to be a very negative hollow experience.

I'm 65 and I've had only one serious adult relationship. That was with my wife. Since she died in 2005 there's been no one. I don't blame that on anyone else. I could reasonably be described as 'socially inept'. That's not the fault of women,other men , or indeed myself. It's just the way things have panned out genetically.

I find it very hard to understand why men who join such communities can hate women with such intensity. I could understand feeling inadequate,I feel that way a fair proportion of the time,but that's a reason to dislike myself rather than to hate women.

Do you think there's a double standard to this though perhaps? Whenever women get together and hate on men there is always a positive "you go!" reaction to it in comparison. Why can't it be negative the other way around as well?
