Saying "up to 50% of priests and monks are homosexual" is a meaningless figure designed to spark a huge outcry because people assume there must be about 50%. Even 1% is "up to 50%" and even that is probably on the high side.
No, "50%" was the actual stat. I added the "up to" part. It's common knowledge. I mean, in our society, gays have more pressure to be celibate than straight people do. So, it's easier to take a vow of celibacy when you're
already celibate anyway. Heck,
I wish I could cash in on
my celibacy, but of course that reward is given in the
next life.

Indeed. The C. Church's problem is that it doesn't give human sexuality its due. It's a powerful instinct, second only to eating, and you can't just "make it go away for life"; you have to deal with it. One way is in marriage, but the C. Church won't let its priests marry; Paul said forbidding marriage is a doctrine of demons: "The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth" (1 Tim 4:1-3).
Priests should not be forbidden to marry. If they want to stay single, then great, but there's no need to add that burden to their many other ones.
