There's discussion and planning of a general strike in the US seeking to pursue a 25% corporate tax rate (No loopholes), Free Healthcare for all, 12 weeks paid paternity and maternity leave, $20 minimum wage, 4 day work week and bans on single use and micro plastics, and limited emissions.

Do you believe there will be any significant participation? If so, how do you think it will be responded to?

Increasing minimum wage doesn't help poor people. It just increases the price of everything.

You're repeating a common establishment talking point but that doesn't mean it's true.

Also free healthcare is a myth. The money would come from taxes, and I don't favor being forced to pay other people's bills. Also people who don't believe in modern medicine shouldn't be forced to pay for it.

4 day work week. This must be a Zoomer plan. Although I prefer to call it Z for Zombie generation.

Of course publicly funded, single-payer healthcare isn't free.

All workers want is to be treated with dignity, equality, and respect. They want their work to be worth more. They're treated like their work doesn't matter, that it's as cheap as it pays, and that they're expendable; a dozen more waiting to take their place should they be fired at any time. Workers should be treated like they're a valuable member of the team regardless of position. They're always being looked down upon by their employers and the government. They're always expecting to be called socioeconomic slurs like Peasant. Workers throw themselves into the grinder and when they come back alive, but injured, they're greeted with the dreaded "sucks to be you". Our nation has no faith in its workers. A person working 3 jobs a week and still can't make ends meet is viewed as just as lazy a person who does nothing at all.

I'm sure there were people who thought a 40 hour, 5 day work week was too radical and they were wrong too.

And I'm sure there are plenty of Zombies who play around all day with their thumbs up their asses who love this plan.

How dare people expect fair compensation and a reasonable work/life balance. That's communism.

On paper, it sounds good to want all of those things for everyone. Except for the problem: who will pay for it in the end? You can not give that without taking from someone else. I think this event is going to be a dud.

No one's suggesting such things would be free, that's why advocating for raising corporate taxes is part of the agenda. It's probably not going to achieve anything directly, but what other option is there? Counting on the centre-right Dems to advance working class interests clearly doesn't work, they're a part of the problem.

OK, so you raise the corporate taxes and then what? Corporations are going to adjust their prices higher to makeup for the tax loss, so who really gets to pay for it? We will go into a higher and higher inflation era overall. That inflation issue eventually causes job losses, those same jobs that you want to be payed better for. Who really wins?

Clearly neo-liberalism isn't doing much to benefit the average worker, what do you propose? Leaning further into neo-liberalism and making things worse?

No, but going the route you propose will put us on track to someday becoming like Russia in the 1920s-1930s. Not a good time, except for those in power. Communist ideas fault when others take control of your choices and give it to a select few. It is human nature to “save yourself” first and that is what they will do at your expense.

How exactly will raising minimum wage and instituting M4A result in the Soviets taking over? :chin:
Absurd exaggeration is exaggerated and absurd.

We will become just like them if we follow everything that is being asked in the protest. It would be a rather short matter of time before we see Animal Farm actually happen here. All we need is the wrong dictator to join the play in progress.

Perhaps if everything in the wildest imaginations of a small number of people who might participate (as though those people represent the majority of participants), but I still don't see where their goals amount to the Soviets winning.

It sounds like baseless hysteria.

Wow, wasn't expecting a WP red scare, anyone have that on their 2021 bingo card? I don't know how I feel about all the demands, but I like the idea of a general strike in principle, if only to remind people of where the actual power in the country lies.

These ideas are a great hope.. preferably without bad dictators . But this event needs to be
advertised much much better . and major notifications , with some major workers unions involved,
to get behind this .....seems people know what is right , but noone seems to want toj act on these things or are afraid.
