I will admit, though I wasn't in support of Mitt Romney's run for President at the time, he has since won me over. During Trump's presidency, he has proven time and again to be one of few members of the Republican party with actual integrity. I would be cool with him running again as the Republican candidate, though it seems unlikely given that the party favours more...let's say radical types.

I was impressed with Pence giving Trump the finger when Trump wanted him to delay the ratification of the Biden presidency.
I had the impression Pence was horrified by the suggestion. 8)
I will admit, Pence has surprised me lately. Just recently, he passive-aggressively hinted that Trump would not be a good candidate for re-election so long as he's Putin's lackey. He didn't use those words exactly, or mention Trump directly, but it's clear what he meant.

I hope more stand up to Trump.

But, who would make the better conservative contender?
Trump or Desantis?

Well, pretty much anyone but Trump simply because of his malicious narcissism. I'd think he was terrible even if he was mostly ideologically agreeable because he'd behave the same way even if his stated political goals were different.

On Sky News, they keep on bringing up Desantis as a viable contender.
Any idea why that is?

he boostered for and signed house bill 101 which provides legal immunity to homicidal drivers who crash into protestors. he banned trans-gender athletes from competing in state sports. he killed public election financing, meaning all candidates better have indefatigable shoe leather/lungs or have bottomless pockets of deep-pocketed secret financing [also something he allows in florida]. he just signed a draconian anti-abortion bill with no exceptions for rape/incest. this is just for starters.

If there are any Ammuuurian conservatives left on this website, how accurate do you think this is?

This is how I feel.

Ideally, any of the moderates will work for me.

I'd pick Reagan. exhume him, let him run with the same program he had the first time.

The income gap between the rich and everyone else has grown exponentially since the start of his presidency so, no, no way, for me, at least. There is a lot of debate over whether he started the trend or simply exemplified a trend that was already in the wind, but we really need to go the other way economically, have the gap narrow. The economic health of the vast majority of American families has declined steadily since 1982.

I never really minded Mitt Romney, just felt he was a little out of touch, and, well, liked the guy he was running against better.

I'm pretty sure that De Santis is a Trump acolyte, so he's not on my list of politicians who can be expected to follow the rule of law and honor the constitution. Therefore, unacceptable.

Charlie Baker, Larry Hogan, Phil Scott and Chris Sununu are the four I’d consider voting for against a weak Democratic candidate (if I had a vote). Kinzinger would be a possibility, as would Lisa Murkowski and a few figures who have stepped back a bit from politics like Jon Huntsman, Bill Weld, and Jeff Flake.

Asa Hutchinson is a bigoted idiot who I wouldn’t support. Clearing the very low bar of condemning Trump is not enough.

So, why isn't Pence a contender?

How is Asa bigoted? He welcomed immigrants and took on white supremacy?
I don’t agree with his stance on LGBTQ,
but sadly he has to represent his constituency.
He’s even called out bigots.

Spencer Cox, governor of Utah, is another person I would consider.

Whatever happened to Evan McMullin, who ran as an indie in ‘16. I liked him.

The only Texas GOP person I would consider would be Will Hurd, an ex-congressman.
