It depends where you live and how much physical right of refusal that you have in choosing who surrounds you. In some places that can work, in many places it paints a target because they can only understand aggression and weakness (the old 'hammers and nails' bit). I might be able to actually do just that - be in the world but not of it - but I'm realizing that it's depended on my living at home, still at home at 45, and needing to retire early so that my company's customers don't have me losing sleep at night. If that only happens for me because I'm that lucky or reasonable at trading - that can't be everyone, which bothers me a lot because I think a lot of guys are being involuntarily turned into blocks of turd on the inside by what other people do to them day in and day out or they'll torment them just because it looks like that person has a soul and since they don't have one they need to drain it out of anyone who they see who has one (the work world unfortunately is full of people like this). To me getting stuck with anyone like that simply because you need a paycheck is a violation.

Watching the Jordan Klepper video, and knowing these people very well may represent half the country, I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.

On top of that, Lord Donald knows that his cult members are gullible, easy marks, and takes advantage of them mercilessly.

Why am I not surprised?

Here is a 1993 movie about how things first changed for men who thought they were in a privileged class back in the 1970s but got laid off from their jobs.

Perhaps one of the most interesting things about this movie is how accurate it is!
So much is fake these days but that is a pretty accurate portrayal of how that machine gun works.

Friendly reminder that Michael Douglas' character in "Falling Down" is in fact the bad guy.

I remember seeing that the time and feeling like it both said something important and took a bizarre twist at the end where the message seemed to be 'to even be asking these questions means you're going to go crazy and delete people - you just don't know it yet'.

US society seems to have developed a kind of "oppression olympics" in which people compete, as members of a given group, for who is more oppressed, because being oppressed has come to be seen as a privilege by the dominant groups, because they think that oppressed groups are getting unfair advantages, when in truth whatever small advantages oppressed groups get barely scratch the surface of the obstacles they face. So white men want to see themselves as oppressed, and the way they can fulfill that fantasy is by moving to the right, because the right is willing to entertain that particular fantasy of theirs.

I don't think that's quite the case, particularly with Richard Reeves and Scott Galloway aggressively advocating on behalf of men (Galloway I could do with less of). Reeves had the idea that because boys developmental track is different that it would be better to 'red-shirt' them so that they start school a year later than girls. I agree that the oppression olympics is naff and I'd want to pull the focus away from that to whatever extent it gets placed there but I think I can give a 'men failing - women most effected' example - women are having a much harder time finding anyone to marry because men are now, outside the trades at least, making less money than women and it sounds like if hypergamy is almost a straight-jacket that the only choice is to turbo-charge male performance in some way and that would probably require specialized work cultures, not just because men who make less money and have lower status are a loss for women but because they're a loss for the economy and a loss of tax revenue for the government.

First rate movie. It also has Robert Duvall as a cop on the day of his retirement trying to find Douglas' character.

I just watched it. Very powerful movie!
