I wonder if they should abolish the bible

Censorship is not the answer.

Ah right I take your point

I can't even remember the thought that possessed me to make the thread but it was something along the lines of what has been stated in some of the responses in this thread

They ban all kinds of books because they think they're bad for children. Like the ones that might make kids find reading fun or think that it's okay to be attracted to the same sex. But I doubt the Bible will ever be banned. Go ffffffigure.

The biggest problem I have with books people argue about they can end up in war and killing milions.
Would that be a good reason to ban books? Of course not. People should accept that others have different views and live on. Everybody should be able to make it's own choices.

Ok I'll check that out if it's a real thing

Certain parts of the Old Testament drew heavily from the Epic of Gilgamesh which is an ancient Mesopotamian text. The Flood story in the Bible, for example, is basically a retelling of the one in the Epic of Gilgamesh with a couple of minor tweaks, mostly making it monotheistic. Much of the Bible drew heavily on preexisting myths, legends, and local cults. Of course, many believers don’t see it that way. I grew up with the idea that the first five books of the Bible were solely written by a divinely inspired Moses when, in reality, it’s a hodgepodge of different sources written by many people over many centuries. The history of the Bible and the diversity of beliefs surrounding it are fascinating to me.

Maybe they could put it in the fictional reading section

That's kind of what I wanted to say. I mean, if you could compile a list of books ranked by the number of people that have been killed in service of the ideas contained within, I suspect at least the top five would be religious books.

And if you correlated that against mentions of peace, love and understanding in said books I suspect you'd get a confusing result.

By which I mean to suggest that it's readers, not the books, that ought to be abolished.

Dismantle purity culture? Yes

^^ I always enjoyed the book of Jonah. It’s extremely entertaining. I wonder if that’s why I’ve always had a strange fear of whales, though. When I swim in the ocean, I often freak myself out with my imaginings. I don’t think I would like being swallowed by a whale.

I remember when I was about 5 or 6 and I had to play the part of David from David and Goliath in a school play

They gave me a catapult and a ball of plasticine and I shot it right across the hall and it hit My Teacher on his glasses...I can still remember how funny it was

Anyway I love that story and the one about the lion

So I think little separate books is a nice idea and then it's up to people to collect them if they like

If you mean in the United States, then my answer is no. I do not agree with book banning of any type.

Now, if the government wants restrictions on books read by children (such as in school libraries), then The Bible should be judged in the same way at other books, especially after reading Ezekiel Chapter 23 vs. 11 - 21.

That entire chapter of Ezekiel is pretty crazy. Vv. 10, 25, 37-39, and 47 are grotesque.
